After all of the recent computer help threads and the many more that have happened over time, I figured it would be nice if there were one place where all computer questions were asked, and hopefully solved. Maybe the problems we come across could be documented in one post. We'll see.
As for solving the problems one may encounter, I personally probably won't be of much assistance unless it is a very basic problem. Jeffery, dirka, ponefish, and whoever else are very knowledgeable about computers and hopefully will be willing to help.
So please, start posting your computer related questions in here, and hopefully they will be solved. I hope this will work out. :)

Ok, so about every time I open my laptop, the screen looks sort of like this:
http://i41.tinypic.com/16c2ps5.gif
About 60% of the time I can just move the laptop a bit or move the screen a bit and it'll go back to normal. Other times, I need to close it so it goes to "sleep," and then when I re-open it, it either works fine or looks like what mentioned above (meaning, it works, I just have to move it slightly).
Starting doing it a few months ago, and it's progressively gotten worse till now it happens basically every time I open it. But once the laptop's is running and I'm using it, there are no problems whatsoever.

Sounds like the video cord is getting frayed and going bad.
I would suggest a repair shop for a replacement.

There is a small cord that runs from the screen down to the video card. That cord can "rub" near the hinge and crack.
What make/model is it?

I almost took my laptop outside to give it a sweet ole' beating. It kept freezing while I'm playing WoW. Could it be because my laptop is simply too wore out to handle big game or it's just too old?
This is my laptop...
Dell Inspiron I6400
http://www.blogtext.org/userFiles/yoretiller/I6400.jpg
Used to be popular during 06'-07'. I got it May 06', and haven't really used it much except for some homework, "videos", music, and then finally WoW. So I've been basically using my laptop for WoW and surfing web mainly since last April. I do other things on a cheap PC, which can handle music, pics, etc. My laptop's battery is dead, so I have to use AC power, and everytime I run WoW, it either freezes or lag like hell once I get off the game and I have to shut down the piece of shit for awhile. This isn't the first time I nearly took it outside. Lol. I'm assuming I need to get a new battery, better video card? (for the game, and more RAM? I dunno. Help me out! :(

ok so get this. someone recommends I watch this show called .hack//SIGN, so I find a place that streams it. Watch like 10 episodes on this site no problems (have no clue why it was recommended to me, as it seems kinda dull thusfar - can anyone else confirm/refute?). Ironically, I get hax3d while watching .hack//SIGN. Wonderful. Nice lil virus that got in just under the radar. Anti-virus was squashing it from installing other beefier Trojans, but it just kinda slipped in and tossed me a random popup every 15 minutes or so.
So I backup everything I hold dear, delete a few registry items, then decided to try the System Restore. I've never seen this thing work. Ever. But I give it a try, because all it does is revert the registry and not touch any files (even tho I backed up anyway). Well, it claimed to be successful, and indeed it was good at removing the virus. Nonetheless, it also managed to remove all of My Pictures, My Music, and My Video folders from My Documents. Seriously?

Depends. How far back did you restore it to?
If your restore point was before those files existed, then of course they would be gone.

was a week back, but system restore isn't supposed to touch files, just registry. Besides, the "My Pictures" folder is installed in the OS itself - there's really no reason the entire folder should be gone.

yeah, cept i don't have the time nor needed program (CDs) to do that. Either way, I backed everything up beforehand, so I didn't actually lose anything. I was just annoyed that the process which "doesn't touch files" decided to wipe out a ton of them.

I doubt it was the system restore that actually did the damage.
I also wouldn't trust the damage to be undone at this point. Dependng on the OS/computer you have, you can download/create what you need to do a complete restore.

I'm sure there is another way, but the way I stumbled upon was by downloading the media player winamp. (http://www.winamp.com/)
All you have to do is plug in the Ipod, click and drag to your winamp library, and then move it from your winamp library to your Itunes.

Dear god I hope someone can help me with this. So..I'll start my explaining my situation. It's a pretty awkward one.
Right now, my main iTunes account and music is on my family computer, but I download most of my music from LimeWire on my laptop. For some reason I couldn't really get downloaded songs to sync to my iPod, so I gave up on that awhile ago. What I do is, I download whatever songs I want for that period of time, drag them from iTunes onto my flashdrive, then put the flashdrive into my family computer put the songs into my main iTunes, and then finally put them onto my iPod. This can get really annoying to do 3-4 times a week. I figured I could just cut to the chase and try to use my laptop for everything. I deleted all the music from my iTunes music folder, not iTunes itself. So everything but downloaded songs from LimeWire is cleared out of this computer, my laptop. I put my whole iTunes folder from my main computer onto my flashdrive, including all the music, iPod apps, movies, readme's, XML docs, whatever else was in there. I figured I could just get it all onto my flashdrive, plug it back into my laptop, drag it from the flashdrive into my iTunes folder, and everything would show up and I could sync to my iPod from my laptop. It didn't work out. After I transferred everything, nothing showed up in my actual iTunes. When I go to My Computer > Music > iTunes > iTunes Music, I see a list of all the artists I have. So I know I have the songs on my computer in the folder, but it's not showing up in iTunes itself. Anybody know what I can do so I can get all my stuff into iTunes? :(

The itunes library file is a singular file in which it contains the data about your music. If it goes missing(ie you deleted it) it will make a new blank one by default. You will then have to go into your itunes settings, change library file, find your old library file and set that as the library. Sounds simple, huh?

NOT folder location. There's LITERALLY a specific file. It's called an itunes Library file. You have to relink to that specific file.

This is just a pretty general question. Will my computer be negatively affected if I live it on for extended amounts of time? For the majority of the time I've had this laptop, when I'm finished using it I'll just physically shut it, thus leaving it on but in hibernation mode I think. Sometimes I would do that for almost a month on end. Am I harming my computer?

I'm on the verge of grabbing a hammer and smash my laptop into pieces. It's being fucking retarded. I know there are couple of things I need to replace in my laptop to make it better. I would like it if anyone could help me out.
The problem? Well, most of the time when I play WoW, sometimes I hit Alt-Tab to the internet broswer to look up youtube vids or whatever, it takes literally 1-3 minutes for the laptop to switch to the broswer. So during the process, everything freezes for awhile. Another problem is sometime when I play WoW, it lags a little or lag like a mofo, so I have to either exit the game then log back in or restart the laptop. I usually restart my laptop 4-5 times a day.
Here are the details on my suck-ass laptop:
System:
Microsoft Windows XP
Professional
Version 2002
Service Pack 3
Dell Inspirion l6400
Genuine Intel(R) CPU
T2300 @ 1.66GHz
1.66GHz 1.00 GB of RAM
Additional note: My battery is dead, so I'm running on AC power cord, and have been doing it for almost 2 months, I think. I'm planning to get a new battery this week or next.
So what do I need to do? I want to be able to make my laptop to be able to run WoW smoothly without any lag, and not freeze for few minutes when I hit Alt-Tab.

Shinny, there is not a whole lot you can do to make it not bog down when switching out of WOW to other applications. WOW is a program that changes the resolution of your screen, and commandeers your entire system in order to run. Trying to multitask during it with your machine is asking for trouble.
You could try and put in more RAM, as well as an upgraded Graphics Card, but neither will stop the problem when alt-ing out of WOW.
As for the lagging issue, I would suggest a good thorough system cleaning. I would then suggest using these guys: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic34773.html
Explain the lagging issue, and post the lodfiles they ask for. These guys are trustworthy, so any programs they ask you to run, run.

The only thing that might help from freezing up is turning the graphics quality down. Everything else looks good. A good cleaning like Jeff said should help too. Personally I use ccleaner weekly.
Edit: While reading SM's reply I realized I forgot to answer part of that last post. You should at least call Dell, or even look through their website for the graphics card. The graphics card on my laptop is integrated so there isn't any changing it.

I used to play WoW and wanted to improve performance to, but I have only 512mb ram so I was in a worse situation than you.
What I needed was a ram upgrade (though you might be fine with 1gb) and a video card upgrade could be good to. 2gb ram wouldn't hurt you if you really wanted to try it.
Turn down all of your display settings to the minimum. You don't really need to see spells all the time unless maybe you're doing some boss fight and need to see something they are doing.
You can try running it in windowed mode instead of tabbing. That should work better I think if your video card and ram are fine.
I never used windowed mode because every 5 seconds I'd get a little delay or whatever, not sure what to call it.

The range is affected by several things. What are the walls made of, and how thick are they? What is the electrical wiring in the house like? How far away is the router?
The router you posted doesn;t have an external antenna, by the looks of it. This will definitely limit its range more.
Also, once you connect to a system, it is easier to stay connected than it is to get the original connection.
Also, depending on how your internal antenna is "aligned", how you face the computer in the room can change how well it works.

Hmm..I'm gonna try and find the box for the linksys, I know I have it somewhere but I just moved so it might be hard to find it.
The walls aren't cement or anything so that shouldn't be the problem, i'm on the opposite side of the house from the router, but my brother is in the basement and his works fine as far as I know
Could the problem be in my laptop?

No. Put it in the drive, the restart the computer. It should allow you to "boot"from the disk, which can then run the recovery process.

My guess is you don;t have it set to remove old recovery files, which is why it's full. You know thats a microsoft thing, not an HP thing, righto? Put blame where it's right, not where you're ignorant.
Empty out your old recovery logs. Then try saving backups.
HOWEVER, most "recovery" drives are simply partitioned spaces on your main drive. If the drive physically dies, you're screwed.
Save anything important to CD. You know, those shiny disc looking things.
Then you're going to want to find a place that can replace your hard drive, or at least test it.

It is not the sound card you are complaining about on the laptops, but their small internal speakers. Almost any of them sound better when jacked into external speakers.

I don't play graphically intensive games often, so i don't really need that good of a graphics card, but I still want to have decent one so I can try all those yummy blizzard games that are coming out soon.
And a big monitor. Doubt I can get much with the amount im paying, but 16 or 17 inches would be nice.

Vista came with it, I upgraded to 7 about a month and a half ago. It's a dual core 1.73 GHz processor, and some other crap (I'm too lazy to go look at the RAM). I'm sure I have enough memory space though for it to run smoothly.

Apparently there are number of factors that can make your computer shitty. I have an older computer, and at work we bought a brand new PC all suiped up. The PC still can't touch the MAC in terms of performance. I was told the bottleneck is held up in the operating system.
RAM is cheap, try to get 1024 Mafia. You still are probablly limited by your motherboard's graphic card and processor.

Go to crucial.com and run their system scan. It'll tell you everything you need to know about the memory in your computer.
Then take that information and use it on the internet to find the best price.

He has a gig of ram already..... The 256k is his video ram, which is plenty to run flash encoded videos that 99% of the sites stream in.The Gig or ram shouldbe plenty for that too, although I would suggest a RAM upgrade toanyone regardless.
Ignition: Because it's still the "best" system out there. ;)
Mafia: http://crucial.com Make sure and use their wizard, soyou get the right stuffand make sure your system can handle it.
Also, here are a couple more questions.
When you "upgraded" to Windows 7, I takeit you mean you downloaded and installed the Releace Client version from the MS website? Basically installed the Wondows 7 ontopof the basefor the Vista. Right?
When you did that, did you have to reinstall firefox?
Go to your start menue, finr "Run" then input "firefox.exe -ProfileManager"
Create a new profile for your firefox, and then try and go watch the movies in full window.
Also, what add-ons doyou have for your firefox, and which version is it?
Also, what make/model is this laptop? I can research of this is a model specific problem. Could just be a driver issue.

I think it justs gets rid of old files that aren't ever used. Something like that. Don't quote me on it though.

A disk defragmenter re-arranges your files and programs and places them in one place. Theoretically you should do this for every new program you install. If you think of it as your computer saving something in multiple sections in your computer, this eats up more space than necessary
That was not meant to sound geeky.. I just know this stuff ^^

Imagine your hard drive is like your desk. In the beginning, you might just put things on your desk randomly where space is available, but after a while things would be all over the place. Only after you organize your desk efficiently, with books stacked towards the back, can you see that you actually have A LOT more space to work with.
That's essentially what defragmentation does.

So all the b*tching I've done about my crappy HP laptop was for a good reason. It turns out the original hard drive was defective from the first time I turned the computer on, and it gradually got worse. I sent it into the HP repair place 4 days before my 1 year hardware warranty expired and they completely replaced the hard drive and it's working perfectly now. :)

At first, no. It didn't matter too much because all I had on it was a bunch of pictures like TAO screenshots and other random stuff, and my music, even though I was still syncing my iPod with my old desktop computer. I had already transferred my music and crap from my old desktop to the laptop with new hard drive and it was all working great, and then Geek Squad called today and asked if I wanted them to recover the data on the defective hard drive before they destroyed it, and I said I didn't need it. No biggie, it all worked out.
