View Full Version : I am sorry for being tased

Well, ok. I haven't been tased yet. I actually do want to be though. Just once.....

But earlier today I was listening to the scanner, and one of the officers at the Pomeroy PD reported he had deployed his taser, and was on his way to the station with the subject. That got me into a discussion in whether or not Tasers are "cruel and unusual".

My personal view is "No, if used properly". Being classified as 'less than lethal" it offers police another avenue to subdue someone who is otherwise out of control.

Yes, there is the downside of possible reaction with the targets heart. But a pistol shot would be worse.

What do you guys think of tasers? Anyone here ever REALLY been shot by one? Or even a stun gun?

PS- Sorry Realist. Had to make it. Thought I would at least make it a real discussion.

No, but they're uber cool to use in Halo.

I agree with your point that they aren't "cruel and unusual" if they are used properly, and as far as I know they are, thankfully. :)

Never been shot by one. But I did see the captain of my high school football team get shot by one. Never seen such a large and grumpy guy fall to the ground wimpering any faster.

Unfortunately, there are hundreds of videos of tasers not being used properly. Those people should do jail time. A lot of security guards and even cops are training or in the process of application to be detectives (either federally or locally), and as stupidity would have it.... kind of like speeding tickets.... they're supposed to have a quota of number of perps caught for that application. So a lot of law enforcement is much more "enforcement" to get the quota filled on file, instead of "law."

I do have personal experience with that: a stuck up idiot of a security guard training to be a FBI Detective. I walked out of a store with a bottle of coke that I forgot to pay for and he fined me 600 dollars... rather than just letting me pay for it, like every other decent human being on the planet.

That is the big advantage. Large guys that could kick a lot of cop ass go down like a stack of wet hay.

I've never heard of ANY station having a taser quote. Most actually try and talk usage down, and all are required to fill out several forms on every use. Not too mention the cartridges are $20 each.

You got scammed. Not a single state law allows a security guard to assess "fines".

No, not a taser quota, just a citation quota. But putting those requirements on anything makes people go to more drastic measures to make their resume look better.

IE: "I had to control and stabilize this kid by tasering him and wrestling him to the ground because he may have been armed" on a citation submission looks a lot better than "He walked in with me with no fight." Hiring agencies, especially for the FBI, need to know that a person is capable of doing something like that.

He didn't fine me, per say. He gave me a citation (once again, quota) and the municipal court of the city of Eugene fined me. But he really didn't have to give me a citation for accidentally walking out of the store. Would have been just peachy if he let me pay the 1.35.

Actually, the FBI highly frowns in new hires coming in with such records. Especially with the current litigation system. Officers who have shown a tendency to be easily provoked are passed over for those who are much more stable.
Also, in the larger cities, the tasers have cameras built in. Every incident is reviewed, and the officer has to justify his use.

As for your citation. Next time stab him and run like hell.

Yes. And the electronic records every gun keeps is what has allowed them to know exaxtly how long the gun was deployed.

Well, if taser guns are meant to control a suspect or keep them from doing any harm, yet can prove lethal, I see no good in having one regardless of the statistics related to taser-related deaths. The risk is there, thus making it that much unsafer in any type of arrest.

Tasers are used often in conditions to prevent the use of the guns. Or the beating someone to the ground with batons.

Look at department records of some of the larger cities. Compare gun use before and after the tasers were deployed. Gun use goes down when there are alternative methods of making someone submit. Also, use of force, aka wrestling and beating someone to the ground, drops dramatically.

Yes exactly, but tasers are not used to kill/severely injure someone like a 9mm. They are used to prevent retaliation from the suspect, not to harm or kill (I've seen them used in situations as small as a traffic violation in which the driver is angered and attacks the cop). When a taser becomes a lethal weapon, it is not serving its purpose.

Its extremly fun to watch people get tazed... if your ever having a crappy day just go to youtube and watch people get tazed and that will brighten your day right up.

However, getting tazed is effing awful... I was tazed in my martial arts school so we would know what it felt like.

We try and see how many steps we can take while getting tazed and if anyone can get 6 steps they get a huge jar of money, but I got like 1.5 steps before falling face first on the ground. Its suppose to hurt alot more if you have alot of muscle... So maybe one of you fattys out there might be able to withstand the pain and make the 6 steps!

Also, there is absolutly no after affect... When I got tazed it was terrible, but when it was done I could instantly jump up and continue pain free, and dont worry about killing yourself because volts dont kill you but amps will.

Normal tazer 20,000 volts, and a cop tazer is 50,000 volts.

Actually, the anus IS a muscular system. The Sphincter is the set of muscles that "holds" poo in.

But the taser doesn't make your muscles 'go loose'. It actually causes most of them to fire rapidly. You actually tense up, and are unable to control your movements to a great extent.

No quite.... Those 20-50,000 volts go through some kind of resistance, causing, apparently, a very small amount of amps. But its silly to think that ampage is what kills you, when voltage is equally as important.

Not to mention the power of tazers is something to worry about, considering people HAVE died from them.

Actually. Voltage on it's ownj is not deadly. You can hit 100,000 volts and walk away. Or you could hit 100 volts, and die instantly.

The Amps you receive is what is actually the killer.

As far as tasers though....They are a good thing. Just this week there was a local story of a guy who wanted to do himself in and his planned method was to do this Suicide by Cop. He did this by getting completely sheotfaced and getting the cops to pursue him on a highspeed chase. The cops did a manuver on him and he wrecked. He tried to pretend he had a gun, but the cops saw that he didn't and instead of getting shot with a gun he was tased....the guys life was saved.

Well then it's obvious you can't read. When I actually do contribute, it's people like Kyir who flame me and the conversation degenerates into a bunch of "inappropriate pictures." Whoa, whoa, whoa. Hold up. I wasn't wrong about what a tool was. Don't try and pull that one. I'm not "full of shit." Show me where Kyir has contributed, what the hell. He said to me plainly that his hobby is flaming me. Contributing member?

I facepalm a lot at your posts, too. Half the time I see your name it's been these witty insults directed at everyone, in the name of insulting people. Where this comes from, who knows? Maybe you were picked on as a kid? Maybe you still are?

EDIT: If you're going to call me out on that, don't expect me not to return the favor.

I demonstrated what it truly means to be a tool when you went off on that rant about what, in actuality, WAS A JOKE. GG.

You have not contributed one bit. Every idiotic thing you've ever posted cpould be gone, and not only would no one notice, if they did they'd wonder why the forums were a better place.

You claim to have "been joking". Of course you were joking. All idiots claim so after being complete made a tool of. Which you were. By multiple persons.

Bdog, you are a tool. And, all joking aside, the world would be a better place without you. Every single post you've made is ample demonstration of what a tool is.

You.

You refuse to address the points in which you can't twist to make me seem like an idiot. Why? I'm sorry but what the hell have you done either? This thread? A mock thread of a mock thread? Way to contribute. As the immortal asshat would say, spammer. So, this puts us on equal planes. At this point we are both idiots.

On you your next point. The fact that you refuse to acknowledge that I actually was joking, and that you took the bait 100%, shows that everyone has a little tool in them. Still equal.

Honestly, I don't give a shit log if you think I'm a tool. You're just some plump man on the internet. Meat was right....

And if you think every post I've made is bullshit, you must have failed middle school english was well.

I'm done messing around with you dude.

What a tool.

Next you're going to claim you didn;t post it. Your "brother" did it, right?

You don;t have a point to address. You haven;t made a single point in a single post the entire time you've been on these forums. Every single post you've made has been frought with idiocy. You are an idiot. You are stupid. Everything you do is idiotic and stupid.

To sum up.

You are a tool.

He said he's done though, that means only two or three more posts.

Also, my hobby doesn't mean I can't contribute to serious discussions.

I remember when it wasn't just about random insults over and over again trying to hit a persons soft spot on one of the insults until one person gets bored..

It's like the TAOers roast of TAOers but less funny

Meh. It;'s easy with kids like btool1321.

It's not so much insulting him, as just being honest.

bdog. Calling someone a tool is the same as calling them a complete idiot. Something quite fitting for you. Being "used" is not a required. Being you is all someone has to do to be a complete tool.

Whatever the clown says goes, eh? Modify it to your liking, the only place I've ever seen it used to call someone an idiot is TAO. Oh, but that means everyone else is doing it wrong and you're right, hmm?

This is funny... I was having this exact conversation with my girlfriend and my mom the other day when my mom asked what "being a tool meant."
For the record, I knew it meant idiot, my girlfriend thought it had to do with being used....

That is what a tool is, someone who is used.
The internet took it and made its own definition.

Tools don't have to be used. I haven't used my hammer yet.
