So, I was washing my hands with my cellphone on the washstand....and my cellphone was accidentally almost completely submerged for about a second.
Right now, the battery works fine, and I can turn it on. Unforunately, the buttons barely seem to be working if at all at this point. I can see a red indicator sticker in the phone itself....which I believe means I have a voided warranty if I go to a store.
"Moral judgements" aside, are there any suggestions on how to fix my phone? I've heard putting it in the oven at a low setting or using a hairdryer might work....also is there any way to "trick" the Verizon people by putting a white sticker over my voided one?
My Phone is a Motorola BT51.

Not as bad as in my case. My phone was left in my pants and ran through a 45 minute cycle in the washing machine and another hour in the dryer. Damn thing still worked for months before I traded it in for an upgraded phone. I'd say its likely damaged by now but you can still try to open it up and let it air dry for a few days. Make sure you've left it turned off...

Maybe try taking it apart and just giving it time to dry.

If its a hot day out, go in the store all mad tell them you left the phone in the car while you were in ( insert your choice location here) and when you came back out your phone felt moist and it's not working now...worked for my brother when he jumped off the peir and relized he still had his phone on him

I went sailing with my phone once.
All you can do is take everything out of it you can, like the battery and covers and let it sit overnight in a dry hot place. You shouldn't really have turned it on straight away, it might have shorted something out.

Best thing to do from an electronics perspective. Take it completely apart (unscrew the sucker) and put it in a bowl of rice or under an intensive light (hot light). If you use the rice trick make sure you leave it overnight. If you do the light trick it should only take like 30 mins. You might not be able to salvage it though since you turned it on. But maybe. The reason the keys aren't working is because the little bit of water still in it is causing shortages between circuits.
If all else fails, lie.

Here's what you do.
Run it over with your car. Seriously. Then apply for a replacement, since it was an "accident" that killed it.

Is this a parody thread?
You just have to ask yourself that question whenever you see iceman making a new thread.

When I submereged my phone, all I did was take it back and said, give me a new one, because it's broke, and it worked.

I had the same problem with my LG ENV. but my suggestion is that you should just not get a motorola. im not going to say that the phones suck, but they're not the best company to buy from for cell phones.

On the outside chance that this is a realy thread requesting real advice (seriously, when's the last time Iceman came to TAO looking for advice?), I have some. (Advice, that is.)
I went snowboarding for a day with my phone in my pocket. This probably wouldn't have been a problem without all the sick Back-flipping Corkscrew 720McSteez's or whatever that I was doing, but my phone was wet at the end of the day.
Anyway, after leaving it out overnight didn't work, I took the battery out and blew a hairdryer on it for about 5 minutes. Worked fine after that. Now, whenever I'm doing my Inverted 1050 General Petreus's, I put my phone in a ziplock and it's all good.

My grandfather told me about the ziplock thing.
You're old Northwind.
EDIT: Taking your battery out of the phone does work though. Sometimes

Oh yeah? If I was old, could I do a 682 Dali Undercross? Huh? Yeah, the next time you're able to pull off a 720 Backside Fakie Ollie Buttergrind, then maybe you can talk some smack to me. Til then you can call me the Schoolbus - 'cause I just took you to school!
Meanwhile, your grampa and I are gonna hang at the slopes and get some sick air.

step 1) get white sticker...
no but on a more serious note, turn it off, take out the battery and everything else, let it dry.
step 2) go snowboarding

If you and his grandpa hook up, wouldn;t that make you Wizzy's grandma?

I'm not old!
Maybe everyone should stop calling Northy old from now on and he might even post more often. What joy is there in being a part of an online community if everyone calls you grandpa? I bet Northwind still has a lot of life left in his body.
There, there Northy, you just sit in your comfy chair, drink hot cocoa and let me know when you have to shake your fist at those noisy teenagers again.

My brother once flushed his cell, with his #2...
Just jumped and stomped on it a few times, since the warranty was passed. Got a new one, free.

Also, how does stomping on your phone past its warranty get you a new one for free?
