TAO World Cup '09

So, some of you may not remember or know of Smiley_Girl, but he created some of the most ingenious tournaments and this one was definitely one of my favorites and so, with the help of BaxVarlet and the TAL crew, I am going to bring this one back.

Here (http://tacticsarena.com/forum/showthread.php?t=31577) is the link to the original thread. All the rules and regulations can be found there. Please make sure to read through the rules BEFORE signing up.

The only change in the rules is that this is going to be a single-elimination, individual tournament. Pretty simple, you win your game = you advance, you lose and you're out.

Rule clarifications:

-Knights CAN move freely on their starting line, as well as in front.
-Attacking with your goal post is a "red card" offensive resulting in the loss of your match, not elimination from the tournament.
-Receiving 2 yellow cards during the course of your pool play will be equivalent to a red card and the match in which the second yellow was received will be forfeited; However, you may continue to play in the pool, but any further yellow cards will result in an automatic forfeiture of the match.
-Your yellows will reset upon entering the single elimination aspect of the tournament.

I ironically dumped my extra barrier yesterday because I thought I would never need it. The rules say you can't attack the barrier anyway, so it doesn't really matter if you replace it with another unit (you can just use 2 pyros.)

There are going to be 8 pools of 4-5 and the top two from each pool will advance into a 16-man single elimination tournament. Make sense?

Any strong opposition to this? If not, we're going to start this tomorrow afternoon. Thanks to everybody for their patience so far. This is going to be an epic tournament.

By the check-in date (this Sunday), everybody needs to have either two games played or a combination of 3 games played AND scheduled.

This means that if by this Sunday you dont have AT LEAST two games played or a game played and two games scheduled or three games scheduled, there will be repercussions.

As of right now, you get 3 points for a win and 1 point for a loss and if you somehow manage to draw, you get 2 points.

Comments: He scored 2 early goals so we went to half time 2-0, he keep pressuring me on the second half but Casillas stepped up big time, blocking shot after shot. 20 min left on second half, all his players were tired, some of them injured. :p It was now or never, so I started attacking like there was no tomorrow, Xavi put two beautiful passes to Villa, he scored both of them. Injury time and the score was still 2-2, some one had to come on top, and once again it was Villa dodging defenders here and there, he touched that ball like a god putting it on the top left corner, not much his goalkeeper could do. At the end the best team came on top. :cool:

Flame: The check-in deadline means you need at least two games played or a combination of 3 games played and scheduled by May 3rd. So if you cant play any games, you need to arrange 3 games for next week, and if you play one, you need to arrange 2 games for next week.

In regards to your furgon question, the middle row is the row in between your knights and your opponents'.

Early on China commited a yellow card offense.
Later China had a wide-open goal, but they somehow missed it, giving Argentina the win.

Winner: Spain 3-2

Comments: One of the most waited matches of the World Cup, After getting knocked out by Spain last year from the EuroCup , Italians where thirsty for revenge and Spain had something to prove after that closed game against Israel. 10 min into the game I was already on a hole, the referee called penalty against me and believe me it was a shady call. Italy went up 1-0 with that penalty and 10 minutes after they score another goal, everything was going against me. I manage to keep the score 2-0 in halftime. To my surprise he came playing stronger on the second half and with the referee still on his side, Casillas had to play better then last time and he did. 10 min left on the game, I put Raul in. My only option was to attack and with Raul helping Villa, it was a deadly combo for him, scoring 2 goals back to back one by Raul and the other by Villa. With the score tied 2-2 and 1 min left I mange to get a corner kick on my favor, this was my last opportunity even Casillas was waiting for that corner, Xavi kicked the corner and Senna lost his defender and with a great header he scored the winning goal. Another great game and once again the best team came on top. :cool:

Gall(Advent) has dodged me 3 times so far.
Today was very obvious seeing as she played as if she didn't know we were in a pooled league to get into the main tourny. She even said she was playing DFP today, even though in his PM he had said he was unavailable today. She sat in the lobby for an hour "waiting" on DFP when I had told her about it twice, but she offered to practice or play a grey game.

Gall(Advent) has dodged me 3 times so far.
Today was very obvious seeing as she played as if she didn't know we were in a pooled league to get into the main tourny. She even said she was playing DFP today, even though in his PM he had said he was unavailable today. She sat in the lobby for an hour "waiting" on DFP when I had told her about it twice, but she offered to practice or play a grey game.

I'm just posting this ahead of time so if I DON'T get my game in with her, it's because of the dodging as I may be getting on less because of work and other real life things.

I played DFP yesterday in a practice game because like I told you day before, I had a lot of confusions on how to play and needed some time. Even though I got few concepts in that game, we didn't fully get to play it out because I had to go. From the span of me telling you that and yesterday when you asked me again (Twice) I had only played 1 Game, I asked you if you could help me understand it better but YOU obviously refused, not to mention it was 2Pm for me.

So until I know what I am doing so that I don't get any "cards" I will have to decline a few challenges but obviously meet the deadline and if you are so desperate to play me, atleast send me your times. instead of trying to get me DQ and earn a free win, which is plain.

The check-in deadline means you need at least two games played or a combination of 3 games played and scheduled by May 3rd. So if you cant play any games, you need to arrange 3 games for next week, and if you play one, you need to arrange 2 games for next week.

How is it getting out of hand?

You break the rules once, you're fine. You break them twice and you lose the match and any other breaking of the rules results in a losing of the match. Not sure where anything is getting out of hand.

I only signed up because I didn't know the ramifications of the carding [yes, I read the rules; it just did not clarify them very well].

Yeah, I can see the benefits of it being used if they made a mistake/misclick that broke the rules. But it can/will be abused to win matches...Especially since after this round you're resetting the yellow cards.

Comments: He scored 2 early goals so we went to half time 2-0, he keep pressuring me on the second half but Casillas stepped up big time, blocking shot after shot. 20 min left on second half, all his players were tired, some of them injured. :p It was now or never, so I started attacking like there was no tomorrow, Xavi put two beautiful passes to Villa, he scored both of them. Injury time and the score was still 2-2, some one had to come on top, and once again it was Villa dodging defenders here and there, he touched that ball like a god putting it on the top left corner, not much his goalkeeper could do. At the end the best team came on top. :cool:

Comments: One of the most waited matches of the World Cup, After getting knocked out by Spain last year from the EuroCup , Italians where thirsty for revenge and Spain had something to prove after that closed game against Israel. 10 min into the game I was already on a hole, the referee called penalty against me and believe me it was a shady call. Italy went up 1-0 with that penalty and 10 minutes after they score another goal, everything was going against me. I manage to keep the score 2-0 in halftime. To my surprise he came playing stronger on the second half and with the referee still on his side, Casillas had to play better then last time and he did. 10 min left on the game, I put Raul in. My only option was to attack and with Raul helping Villa, it was a deadly combo for him, scoring 2 goals back to back one by Raul and the other by Villa. With the score tied 2-2 and 1 min left I mange to get a corner kick on my favor, this was my last opportunity even Casillas was waiting for that corner, Xavi kicked the corner and Senna lost his defender and with a great header he scored the winning goal. Another great game and once again the best team came on top. :cool:
