I just found out I'm gonna be going to the University of Calgary in September, and I'm pretty stoked about it. Gonna be taking an English major. Wanna be a high school teacher one day.

It'll take the first 10years of being poor and not being able to even afford to pay his student loans off before he;ll become discouraged.

If you were to become a teacher, you would need to get a second job because you get paid very little for the first couple years. Maybe you could write a book in your free time.
Based on my experience, don't teach regular English classes. Too much headache for so little pay. Aim for Honor or AP.

go here http://www.teachabroad.com/search.cfm and look around, talk to your college counselor about what extra credits you may need to be able to do this.
Basically you get job security by going abroad and teaching english in other developed countries.... you can also go into undeveloped countries but that in my mind would just ead to more headaches.
it's a great way to see the world while you do what you love.

I find it amazing how a thread about college is suddenly turned into a thread about the rest of my personal life.
I made this thread because I'm excited about getting into university. And that's all I will divulge here. If you're genuinely curious about the rest of it, then ask me, and not indirectly in a thread, because believe it or not, not every aspect of my life is public knowledge.
And as far as the comments about the profession I have chosen are concerned...
It was never about money for me. My life long dream has been to become a published author. But that isn't a job. It's a dream. Being an English teacher best fits what I want to do in life. I really don't care if I don't make the "big bucks" doing it.

I also used to feel that most (if not all) of my life was public knowledge. But that should never have been the case, and no longer will be.
As I said, I have no problem divulging information to those who are genuinely curious, but people who are asking for the sake of being a dick won't get answers.

- taxed 3/10 of our paycheque
- 14% on the good we buy
- medical costs per month $54.00
- property tax 1500.00
- taxed again on the goods we sell.!
- bank skimms us user fees...aprox 5-10 a month or more if your in debt.
You know they have done extewnsive research monetarily and are swqueezing each and every one of us JUST to the point where we don't KICK BACK! we take it up the pooper. hard.

Its funny because he made a big deal about moving from Canada to Nebraska over some girl he had never actually met in person, but got super defensive whenever anybody gave him shit for it. Its one of those "I told you so..." moments.

Yo, the past two pages of this thread are so funny.
NN I think of all the subjects a teacher could...teach, the best subject would be English. That is because its not like you would have to teach the same thing every year, but you can have discussions about different themes or what not, so yeah, good luck :). At least you'll be doing something similar to you're dream.
