Hey all. It's me, Hashish_Scout. You may remember me from such threads as "1001 uses for a coconut" and "I swear I didn't know she was three"!

Anyways, hopefully most know that I'm a graphic artist, particularily web design, and as one who hopes to do it commercially when he finally escapes from high school, I need to get myself a bigger portfolio. As such, I'm looking for someone who would like a brand-spanking new website, logo, or web template.

My short lil' resume:
The KOTR Clansite (http://www.imperturbable.net/home) My first, an ongoing project for my clan. The shown webpage is the second iteration of the website. The third (Imperturbable v3.0!) comes out sometime late March, early April

Quota International (http://www.imperturbable.net/quota_home.htm) My newest webpage, so new that my client hasn't even created her webspace yet (yes, she said she wanted to do it herself) which is why it's on the kotr clansite server.

Cassis Bistro (http://imperturbable.net/images/gallery_sample.jpg) My newest newest site. It's for a little French Bistro in my hometown. The link is only for an image, a preliminary model of the homepage of it's site.

So, as you can tell, I'm trying to make too many websites in too little time (two in a month! Not too shabby for a lil' sophomore) so of course I want to put the strain of a third on my back. I recently got Photoshop, and am teaching it to myself as I go along. Here are some samples:
Interface (http://www.imperturbable.net/images/interface_sample.jpg)
Halftone (http://www.imperturbable.net/images/halftone_sample.jpg)
Chiseled Gold (http://www.imperturbable.net/images/goldchisel_sample.jpg)

For a small fee (we can talk horses on this bit) I'll even webmast your site, but for a limited time offer to add to my portfolio I'll build personal, clan, etc sites for people on this forum, one at a time of course.

Wow, that felt good, I'm self-employed in the charity business! Soon I'll be rolling in dough! :p

You all flame DWarrior for offering banner making services, yet you guys think it is ok to provide these services with a "small fee". It is a website. Wow. They are not hard to create. Just takes a little creativity, and a little time.

...
03-07-2004, 09:26 PM
but some websites are worth money foo

Smubeht II
03-07-2004, 09:28 PM
so are some banners, "foo"

...
03-07-2004, 09:32 PM
no they arent, banners are just for this one website
i would pay money for a really awesome website sure
but money for a banner is just retarded

Smubeht II
03-07-2004, 09:37 PM
You could use the banner for other things. Does not have to be solely for the forum.

...
03-07-2004, 09:38 PM
but can u make money with a banner?
u can make money with a website:)

Your work seems somewhat unoriginal, but I guess being able to imitate a good site decently takes talent on its own.

I see your chiseled gold, and raise you a gold plated diamond name tag (http://www.paranda.net/rabienrose/goldrabi.jpg).

Tutorial found here: http://www.photoshopcafe.com/tutorials/diamonds/diamonds.htm
If you play around with the settings you can get any color, so you can potentially have rubies, emeralds, and sapphires, etc.

If you're up to the challenge I am looking for a logo for my start up pet care company. Don't laugh, I did this in high school 12 hours a week and made $1000 a month when I got rolling. It's a backyard poop scoop service. Basically, you have a dog that makes brownies in your back yard, and you have more money that you do desire to clean the aforementioned poop. That's where I come in, for a nominal fee ($32 a month for 1 dog), I come by once a week and remove the offending piles of excrement. I did this before for about 3 years, but due to some business problems we won't go in to (NOT that it didn't work, I made about $1000 a month for 12 hours work) Anyways, I want to restart, and I need a new name for the company. There's other companies out there with names like poop patrol, dog's best friend, the daily scoop, poo nanny, and others, but at the moment I am at a loss. It couldn't be any of those other names, and whatever logo you could design should be simple enough to print on envelopes, letterhead, business cards, and T-shirts. It should also be nice enough to put on a web page. I am not looking for elegance, I mean, it's a dog shit business! I had a cartoon type logo before, as do most other companies. It keeps the lightheartedness of the business on the forefront when people get their bills every month. So anyways, I'd be open to ideas for a name if anyone cares to help, and would definately be interested in a logo. If it does turn out to be the logo I use I would be more than willing to give you all the horse poop I can scoop (you said deal in horses).

I'll see what I can do with your logo. How would you like it? A nifty effect-ridden high-resolution photoshop graphic, a simple and stylish vector useful for all mediums, or somewhere in between? Maybe we can get some e-mails going. I live to satisfy :p

Oh and Rabi en Rose, I can whoop your diamond name tag any day of the week, just you wait til I'm home from school :p

Hey, Rabi. I made a diamond encrusted namesake without your crummy tutorial, so there! :D

It still relies on the tiny lens filter (is there any other way) but it doesn't have the weird action going on with rendering clouds, and mine has de better border, i think. :)

And I'm working on your logo as I speak, Nads. I posted some things in your poll, but you'll probably use something else, of course.

EDIT: Oh yeah, the link. Right...link (http://www.imperturbable.net/images/diamond_sample.jpg).

Scout, do you know flash and swish?

Hashish_Scout
03-08-2004, 03:37 PM
Flash, yes.
Swish, no.

Swish is that weird Flash addon that makes it all easy and stuff, right? Or am I thinking of something else?

meletus
03-08-2004, 03:40 PM
Swish is the text editor plugin and self app for doing just about anything with text.

Hashish_Scout
03-08-2004, 03:42 PM
Huh. Maybe I'll buy it...or download it illegally. Is it worth the money? Does it work well?

meletus
03-08-2004, 03:55 PM
its 20-30 bucks.. yes there is a crak out there.. :) Save a a lot of time.. I say worth it, if you like fast moving flash. or text that moves. It imports well.

Hashish_Scout

I say worth it, if you like fast moving flash. or text that moves.

I have no idea why, but I find this quote hilarious. Tex that moves...excuse me. Hee hee, hehe, he...

I'll probably have to actually buy it, haven't been able to find a mac p2p worth a damn.

Macs are the only computer graphic designers should ever hsve to use. It's practically made for that profession.

Easy-to-use systems that don't crash and destroy your art, memory that handles large programs like Photoshop and Dreamweaver with equamity, big graphics names like Macromedia and Adobe originated here, plus...we get aroused by the Macintosh's beautiful interface. Or is that just me? Did I just say that out loud?

NEVER diss the mac, unless you're talking about games or p2ps.

OK, fine, that's the teenagers livelihood, but I always have pc bighitters from two years ago, as well as online games. Plus, acqwuisition and limewire do an ok job of p2p, as long as it's a chart-topping rock, rap, or pop hit *shudder* they usually have the punk I look for, anyway.

Swish is terrible, since the effects are so easily recognized that anyone can tell you used it, and more often than not it compiles a bunch of junk that refuses to be compatible with Flash MX. Not worth it.

What do you mean it doesn't work with Flash fx? How are you using it?

Also depends on what effects your using.. Yes there are some dumb ones in the lot

Hashish_Scout
03-08-2004, 04:24 PM
Does it work with Flash MX 2004? No I'm not too much of a rich kid, but I had a continuum of flash versions for making stick figures, so they give me fairly cheap upgrades.

Rabi en Rose
03-08-2004, 04:27 PM
I'm not sure, as I deleted it about half a year ago. My main problem with it is that it actually generates a movie and forces you to import it into Flash, rather than generating code that can be easily handled.

Hashish_Scout
03-08-2004, 04:29 PM
Eeeeeew...a movie. I guess so you're more dependent on them for effects, instead of learning how to do it and change it.

FuzzyUndercling
03-08-2004, 05:07 PM
traditionally I would have no use for swish, but I have a project that is almost all text.

If you are interested, I may out-source a small amount of work.

Bob Marley
03-08-2004, 06:00 PM
If you output the swish file as an SWF, of course it will work in flash.

Swift on the other hand is a 3d flash program. It takes your 3d models, and incorporates them into flash for you. Helps alot. It's really helpful for simple animated logos and such.

Swift is what Seed uses to put his 3d models into flash.

Hash - Did you draw that knight on the KOTR site?

Wow... You guys are having a "who can follow a tutorial better" contest. Not that exciting. Let's see something more dynamic, eh? Tutorials don't teach you how to do a certain effect. The teach you the tools needed to achieve your own effects. Anyone can follow a simple tutorial and make the same thing. Your work becomes impressive when you make something your own, and add your own style to it. That's what tutorials are for.

meletus
03-08-2004, 06:03 PM
Swish 3.0 has a export to swf or Fla file. both import as movies types not graphics and not Ai's.. and that is the way you would want to use them..

Also ask Strong Bad (http://www.homestarrunner.com) if he like Swish.. I think you will find the answer to be yes and it doesn't look cheap.

Yes this works for all Flash versions.

are you trying to brag or something by stating to the world that you don't use tutorials? from what i see, the link to that tutorial was to help anyone out who didn't know how to create the gold effect, not an invitation to see who could "rip off" an effect the best. after reading that, i followed the direcitons and i actually learned something. sorry we can't know everything about photoshop beforehand

Hey, Bob Marley, why do you have to be so negative about everything. You walktz around and insult everyone, and then disappear until the next time someone thinks about artwork that might be better than yours.

Anyway...I followed my tutorial better :D

And once I get to your high and mighty status, I'll stop using tutorials. I just started using it two weeks ago, cut me a little slack.

I made an image (http://www.imperturbable.net/images/bobmarley.jpg), Marley, without a tutorial. It isn't much, but i'm learning. It uses the "rasterize layer" function to allow filters to be applied to text. Simple enough, I know, but where did I learn it? A tutorial. What about motion blurs? I learned cool uses for that in this (http://www.imperturbable.net/images/jaguar_sample.jpg) tutorial. They all come in useful, I learn by doing. Even if I use it directly doesn't make it wrong, if i use it right on a site.

Bob Marley
03-09-2004, 02:58 PM
I never said tutorials were bad. I was never mean.

If telling somebody the truth is mean, then you're right, I am mean. I mean, seriously, how can you sit here and brag about how well each of you followed a tutorial? I have NOTHING against tutorials. In fact, I think they are great. I learned alot of the things I know from them. However, nothing I have produced is a direct result of a tutorial. I use the information given to my by these tutorials, and I make my own art, and spawn different ideas.

I'm not trying to brag, there is nothing wrong with tutorials, Petit Charat.

dotdotdot, you are posting things I cringe at. How about you stop hiding behind statements like, "I made this when I was only in 5th grade." You are trying to save your ass, because you know the picture sucks. If someone says it sucks, you can say, "Hey I was only in 5th grade." If someone likes it, you will take the praise and think you are better than you are. You jump on others' bandwagons, and let them doing the fighting for you. Then you sit there and yell over your big friends shoulder, "yea bob." Please. I have better things to do than deal with you. I think "owned" fits well here.

Hash, interesting image, but nothing that stands alone. A great effect, that if used properly can inhance an image. You duplicate the text layer maybe 2 times, and rasterize the duplicates. You apply motion blurs in 90 and 0 degrees, to get the echo effect. Of course you have to rasterize, because you cannot apply the filters to a text layer, as they are vectors.

We are arguing the same point, Hash. I also never said anything on this post about me being better than you. All I posted was my view on tutorials and what they are used for. Please, (everyone) stop putting words in my mouth, it's big enough as it is.

Also, once you get to my "high and mighty status" you will still use tutorials, as I still do.

Anyone can follow a recipe, but the cooks are the ones who make the really good food.

So my tone of voice (type) is more serious than yours, so what? What's your point? If I type more educated than you I'm a flamer? I don't get it...

I agree with most of what you said, but I don't think me and Charat were really trying to compete with tutorials ever. Our emoticons which you so loathe can attest to that, I think.

LMAO, am i supposed to be offended by someone that doesnt believe that kids can draw at grades as low as 5? and it was just me informing viewers that the picture was in fact done that long ago and ive gotten better. and i dont jump others bandwagons, i just back em, especially when they are good ones and against you:p and owned doesnt really fit well, of course you would think so because no woman would ever say ow to you no matter how tight she was....and i think that owned would be nicely put here;)
