View Full Version : What's do you think of the Witchburn setup?

Ok by Witchburn i mean setting your witch in a position for a first round cleric kill. Personally i think it's a weak setup for these reasons:

1) Setup depends on getting first move to be most effective.

2) Many people use up front light ward, and a first turn witch/pyro kill is one of the most effective uses for the contraption.

3) The setup is easy to counter, and is only likely to work once against any one opponent. (I've had my one time, now my setup is immune to it)

Anyway, just wondering what others tought of this setup

It's a pretty useless strategy. The first thing a newbie does is play with the noob formation and get Cleric-zinged on turn one. Then he immediately surrenders, goes to settings, and does the obvious - Lightning Ward dead and center.

You can easily beat such a formation by weighing heavily on one side. The Ward is now useless...

Well, if your Witch is on the front row, there are three columns that she can hit the back of (the one she's on and the one to either side). Since there are only seven columns on the very back, that gives you just less than a 50/50 chance of being in range. However, if your opponent has someone on the front row in the same column as their Cleric, they're in the way and you can't get in.

I play with my Witch on the front row (off to the side, of course--out of range of most Lightning Wards), mostly because she's good as a quick suicide run when your opponent is still in formation. And, of course, whenever a Cleric zap is available, I take it, as it's a great way to start the game off.

Orius, that's exactly what I do, I think it works great.

Any good player would position his cleric in corners and what not, and have a stronger unit in front so that no witch could ever get him on one turn.

Any set up like this, with the witch in front hoping to take out the cleric immediately, can be countered by a good starting set-up.

I play witchburn, but with LW front and center and Cleric in corner w/barrier ward. It works most of the time against newbs, which is the main source of games now, but as soon as I go Gold (which is soon) I am going to change my positions accordingly.

Any form of witchburn is countered by a good set up. Just put a your cleric in the corner, with a knight 4 spaces in front of him. Bam, impossible for your cleric to die first turn.

Just curious, but is it still good to put a witch in the front of your formation? I like to launch kamakazi attacks against lines of enemies early on. Just looking for input.

I do, and not only newbs have setups vulnerable to a witch. Its also a good distraction while sneaking up to a cleric.
