Hi. A true story. I was playing some guy "zidane2," and he said, "surrender or u get virus." I didn't. Bad move. He said, "ok now u get virus." Suddenly I'm disconnected. Now my web browser (and who knows what else) is %$$^#^ED UP!
I'm posting from a different computer while IT tries to fix the damage. Be careful out there, people.
I appreciate that the game designers are honest and trying to make a buck (and have made a really fun game), but you should be informed of the risks.
Thanks for listening.

That sounds interesting... a couple of notes.
First, you don't know that you would have been any safer if you had surrendered.
Second, it isn't the adminstrators' fault that someone sent you a virus
Third, I'm not sure that someone can just send you a virus like that. I don't know what happened, but that seems like a very curious virus....

hoot go take spelling lessons man, lol... its coincidence (watch i probably spelled that wrong)
and while it might be a coinicidence why would that screw his net over enough that it needs IT ppl to fix it? *shrugs* i'm not sure how this guy would track u down to jam the virus down ur throat but if he could then its entirely possible

He couldn't get your IP unless he hacked the server. Only then can he hack your computer. Strange to use a virus for that, I have yet to meet the virus that takes an IP adress as an argument to go hack something, in which case it would technically speaking be a worm anyway.

actually he could get his IP addy, my cousin explained how its done (he works at a web-hosting company, i'll trust his knowledge) so it could be done... but i'm almost more inclined to think that this is really all just a story to get poor newbies who read this to surrender when nidane tells them to... either that or its true

Could you explain it to me? As far as I know there is no P2P connection whatsoever in TAO, both clients connect directly to the server. You could try spoofing via the server but any information is processed by the TAO host before it is sent to the other client, I highly doubt the possibilities of this.
