Here are the greys of Banff and 1 from GL (or golds who will play with grey units) who can beat me on a regular basis. I have beaten all of them at least once, with one exception. In NO PARTICULAR ORDER:

Bottle
Haywood Jablome
Amp123
Orthodox
Xyx
Nads

I beat bottle, amp and haywood on my grey account. I brought Orthodox here from another game and taught him how to play, and he surpassed me. Xyx and I have played only once and he won, arguably due to blocking, but nevertheless, he won.

I'm not very humble, and I wish someone else would have nominated me, but since I'm gold I put myself up there. There are golds I can't beat as a gold, but I have beaten when I used the grey units. I think my grey formation is more solid than my gold one.

Anyways, if you can beat me at grey, flame me, otherwise, keep quiet. These are the best greys on Banff without a doubt.

Im willing to stand up and say im not one of the best in my belief, but ive beaten alot of peoople who are clssed as very good. I suppose im a good grey, although no where nearing the being the best.

Um... i dunno.. this is kinda silly. sort of a mine is bigger than yours discussion.

I can not say who is the best as on at a certain point, the rankings dont matter anymore as on any given day one of the players will out perform the other. Mostly, this is about luck in blocking or something silly like that.

I would say, that the grey amp123 was the most impressive player I have played against. But, I am also VERY convinced that he can be beat. and where is IQ in this list? What about Salnaea who is the only grey I know that openly challenges golds and BEATS them, including SI golds.

the way I see it is this, at a certain point 1280+ you can relax and say. " I am f@cking great and those are my peers and they are also F@cking great. cool enough. "

after reaching that level, you can just go crazy and have fun

Having said that, I would say that pound for pound, Netjak has produced the BEST greys on BANFF... BARE NONE! The recruit the best and everyone helps the other to improve.

yes, bottle is gold but as a grey he was at the top, and he still does play grey, well he did against me (i'm pretty sure, it's been a while)

Are you guys blind, the best greys in my eyes are ersio17 lord ducki and haywood jablome and bottle was. (from whom ive played) reason being when they get on they are CONSTANTLY in battle. So so called good greys dont battle for fear of losing stats and so forth.

I would say Neal the Fat deserves to be on that list. I don't know if he's still around, but a few months ago when I was grey he was the only grey to beat me despite me getting a slight advantage through blocking. The only greys who ever beat me did it either through incredible luck (and I often beat people who got lucky against me anyway) or through having a setup that was the only possible way to beat me (and they got lucky too) so despite being a gold now I think I should get a mention. Oh, and my high score as a grey was 1427, and that was only 3 weeks after the reset (I went gold after that). I have beaten xyx without using drops as well.

I'd say the best (on Banff) are:

Bottle (now gold)
Amp123 (ng)
Haywood jablome
Neal the Fat

That's of who I've played and can remember, there are others but I've forgotten them. I've also heard good things about others (especially lord ducki and orthodox) but I've never played them.

Bottle made it to 1427! wow... not bad. I think Dinmore (another netjak clansmen, makes me proud as i recruited him) will pass that this reset and am at about 1419 or so now, but i dont play that much anymore as the server instabllity got me down and off creating my business. What really bites is that I have lost 114 (yes, i counted) pts to disconnects or server going down over the course of the month. You can do the math.

In anycase, I find it an honor to be mentioned in the same breathe of some of these players. if any have been left out in this thread is probably due to lack of memory not disrespect, Anyway, thanks for all the props. :D

Like I said in my earlier post, at certain point (1300 or something like that) ranking begins to lose meaning, you can class yourself among the best and that is just f-ing great. :cool:

I also want to go on record saying that unlike Bottle who appears to be superman save Neal the Fat's kryptonite, I am not unbeatable. Although, luck sometimes has played a great part in those loses. :rolleyes:

What, I can say is that I am one of the most consistently winning players. My strategy is simple, play the better players, over 1000, and win 90+% of the time.

ps. Only_option.. yup, if your good you gotta prove it all the time by dominating your segment of TAO coz everybody wants a shot at you anyway.

my battle song is Queen's "who wants to live forever....." from the highlander movies. :p I think you'll find most the netjak greys with this attitude. My favorite example was salnaea who was attacking Golds at 1300 and winning 50% of the time before going to legends as a gold (Wack-head). the man had no fear!

I'm sure my 1427 will be passed, but I doubt it will be passed within the 3 weeks I took to get it..... I played virtually full time during those 3 weeks though:D

It's not just me that Neal beat, I don't think he's ever lost to a grey, the only reason he wasn't higher in the rankings is he doesn't play much.

We must have an all-grey battle sometime lord ducki, maybe when I get back to university and can actually play.

Ok, final tally for 1 month (March 2004) was 1465. This was my highest point and I believe it is the record for a grey. I never cheated to artificially raise my scores. Those points were earned through hard battle of which i learned alot and was beaten on many occasion.

Bottle, your old record of 1427 for a grey was shattered not only by myself, but also by my clansmen: Dinmore who got to 1451.

You can ask any of the netjak clansmen for verification.

Any way, I never said I was the best or unbeatable, I just said I was consistent.

I learned the most from my netjak clansmen (in particular medemia who taught me the way of the enchantress). Thanks for all the tips and support.

I think that i have proven myself on Banff and am now leaving it to the next generation of TAO players to set the bar a bit higher. My bet is that it will be another of my clansmen who surpasses me. ;)

I think he admitted that. But I tell you what, you don't get to 1400+ without some skill. And Ducki had so much skill, it was flowing out his ears.

If the ratings would have been updated BEFORE the reset instead of being a gold listing, we would have seen Lord Ducki rated #9 and Dinmore rated #10. Now that is impressive for anyone, let alone a grey.

ducki, that match came down to me winning, until you hid like a cry baby until I made a move.

I remember tracking your Knight with my chant and other Knight. In the end, it came down LW and Knight apiece, and you unfortunatly won.

I have faced much better grays than you... Such as Bottle.

Even grays I've beaten I'd have to say are better than you, like Northwind.

In conclusion, ducki, don't brag about being the highest ranked gray, and claiming you're the best, because you aren't. :)

(Also, I'd be happy to face off with you on Banff even with my 0 drops.)

again.. if you bothered to read ANY of my posts on this, I never stated I was the best or unbeatable. All I did was set the bar for the next generation to beat. I only just beat Dinmore for the record by 14 pts. (though the disconnects when the server was unstable cost me 114 pts)

but maybe your right devast8, I got to 1465 by pure luck. maybe not.

Well done on the 1465 thing, but I agree with whoever said that to get this high a rating, all you need is a lot of time and a tendancy to win all your battles. Oh and a stable internet connection:D.

It's easier to get high ratings now, the golds have higher ratings and you can get more points off them. :p

sure no probs playing, but like i said many o times in this thread... at a certain point everyone can beat anyone else on any given day. it is like class yourself in the elite class and say "everyone here is fucking great and that is fucking great in and of itself."

since setting the record, which i did to set a spark on tao and get the better players to aim for something, it has become duck hunting season. I log into banff to see my clansmen and I am personelly attacked left and right. I have had so many idiots wanting to prove their self worth by challenging me to a match .. and so what if i beat them or they beat me.. the record still stands and and the game was played in the wrong karma. I find it utterly pathetic. I hope your not one of these schmucks as i did not get that impression last time we met.

In principle, I told myself that I was done playing on Banff and would leave it to the next generation. I now play on legends on and off again in a causal manner as the competition and variety there is amazing. However, I will play you, along with nads, xyx (who i saw on last night), or any of the other elite in the spirit of fun, great TAO play, and learning tactics.

But as soon as I hear any of this ego tripping shit, i just get utterly turned off. So if your wanting to play me just to say you can beat me, your better suited with a support group or therapist. (you know who you are!)

Bottle, you've been classed as one of the elite by others, and knowing that you hit 1427, and from what i saw in your play; your elite in my book as well. let's play, but let's play for fun not egos. I love this little game and I don't wanna spoil it with all the infantile, meglomanic stuff that has been going on.

Ducki, the only battles I enjoy are the ones where someone wins through using superior tactics, and not, for example, winning due to luck against a higher rated person and then boasting about it. I'd like to play you because I've heard you're a good player and I simply like playing good players. Just hang around on Banff when I'm back at university, I'll be back in a week and a half.

I am by no means in the top class of grays or in the "ELITE" but i do have enuff sense to realize that anyone can be beat and that the integrity of the game is what counts. My clansmen have taught me well and i am forever thankful for their guidance. As my mentor ducki stated "he is not unbeatable" but to that i say no one is. I mite play any of u 100 times and take 1 but if that be the first who is to say that i am the best. I will continue to play and improve and someday shall make my clan proud. The higher numbers will be easier to reach with the amount of good talent out there and even thow i may never reach the record or set 1, I hope that in my time people will come to say that i was a fair and honarable player. I hope some day to be counted among the greats but shood that never happen I am most proud that I am NETJAK. Long live the DUCK my hero and mentor

Just played cpt_caim.... he left the arena when the position was:

Me: 3 knights, assassin, enchanty on 23HP, scout, LW, BW on 14HP, cleric.

Him: 3 knights, cleric, LW. Paralysed assassin on 9HP.

Still think you're a good player? I would have beaten you losing only one unit (a DMW which I paralysed myself, and you killed). And your pyros got 4 blocks out of 4 from the front, and you hit my scout front, in the only blockable attacks in the game other than one scout flank. Stop boasting if you can't back it up.

Yes, this is a double post, but the edit wouldn't look right with my last post...

I'm going to go for ducki's record again, although I don't think i'll make it this time round because I was away for 2 of the 4 weeks before the reset... but next month I'm going to try and be the first grey past 1500. At the moment, I'm about 300 short of that, with only 2 weeks to go... but you never know...

I also found an excellent grey on Banff, goes by the name of rantzu and has rated 1327 at this moment. He ran me the closest I've been in a long time. It could have gone either way at several points but I had the advantage of having my cleric left (I swopped my scout for his) so I could deal with him at my leisure, despite him having superior combat units. We both used no drops, which goes to show that some of the best games don't need extra units.

Perhaps some day sir before you get to limbered up I can have a go with you. I may not be able to give you as good a competition as rantzu or medemia but I shall give it my all. That is why I'd like to have the battle while you are still a little rusty.:D
I have found out many things from my brothers at netjak. One of them is to not be afraid of anybody becuase even in a lose you can learn much. The other is to always try my best and give an honarble match. I wood like the opportunity to show you what I have and here your opinion on my strengths and weaknesses and some day perhaps I may even be good enough to either draw or dare I say beat you sir.
Anyway I look forward to a battle with you sir:)

cool great I wish you luck. once you get into the 1300 the points slowwwwwww down.. like 1-3 pts max a match..and loses hurt ..usually 24-31 pts..

I know ducki, but believe me, it gets worse when you're at 1550:D

My view on this subject of highest ever grey rating is that it will continue to increase. As the golds reach higher and higher levels, beating them will give a grey far more points than they could ever have got when the rating system first came out. I think 1500 will be broken either this month or next month. But we'll see.

That's because I've been going for 1700 on my gold instead. I reached 1200 in one night on my grey, and haven't played on it since. None of the greys are really going for the record either. Maybe next month, despite me having prelims, I'll go for 1500...

I don't know if I'm one of the best, but I guess I can hold my own. I think I'm better against golds than great greys though. It's fun either way.

Best greys that I have played? Bottle (grey), tcbb, loveisred, tiks (although he's gold now), Lord Ducki and others that I'm sure I have missed. Ominiss and _bob_ are quite good too.

There are lots of others that would be up there with me if they weren't in retirement or played a bit more often. You, nads, Pyro_guy4, IQ, Big X... the list goes on. In fact, most of netjak would be higher if they didn't use bombs so often and didn't actually have a life outside this game.

For whatever reason, he decided to go solo ( probably best , he was about as much fun as having a bag on your hip) but this guy is GOOD. Anyone that hasn't played him , be a careful. Last time I checked , he was in the 1420s on Banff. Definately one of the top 5 greys

Yeah, I played him yesterday as a gold once, and beat him soundly as usual, although he always puts up a good fight. We then agreed to a grey-grey battle, which I won thanks to one extremely risky move by him and my lovely, lovely chanty. We rematched again and I surrendered when he got my knight for no exchange (I kinda got bored when neither of us attacked, so I suicided him. *Smacks head*) He's a damn good grey, and if he used a chanty I think he'd easily be the best grey we have currently.

No. Rantzu is the best current grey, and I am the best ex-grey. Although Lord Ducki could play quite well.

We have some of the best greys (but no one really knows who we are) but I believe the best ever was either dinmore, lord ducki, and bottle. Ive heard that dinmore was amazing but seemed to disapear about a month ago. Rantzu is definetly up there for best greys but he wouldnt be in my top 5 for one reason. I witnessed in the lobby "roody poo" openly challenged him but Rantzu refused, I suspect he did to protect his stats which were near to ducki's record (he may have broken for all I know). I have never said I would not play someone or turned down a challenge and I do no think that lord ducki, bottle, or dinmore ever turned down a good ol' grey to grey challenge.

Yes, he broke the duck's record; he reached 1475 on the day of the wipe.

What was roody poo's rating? I must say, when I was 1420, I turned down challenges from 800 greys. And anyway, maybe he'd played roody poo before, and didn't like him for some reason. If he was going for ducki's record, why wouldn't he accept a battle with a grey that would help him towards that level?

Bottle it is true about roody poo challenging rantzu and rantzu not accepting. In fact I also challenged him and he also turned me down. I do not know why he would not like us so much as to not play us, actually when he talked in the clan(which was rare) we were good buds. By the way my stats were 1225 and roody's about 1200. I would never turn down a challenge from some one with that rating. So I believe the only reason he would not play us is to avoid losing stats.

I think i am fairly good... I vote myself(Berzerk, and +][-][e 4th 4sight), squiggly, Bottle(grey), Jango-Fett(he is new but is getting good fast), and Lord Ducki

and Cosgrove, Rantzu1, has challenged me twice and i beat him twice he seems to be a nice guy and he plays okay but he challenges a lot... at lease from what i have seen

Someone good enough to beat rantzu shouldnt of had to cheat in the past. and for the record I never challenge anyone......only those who insult me and usally they wont play. I think he was #1 for resons beyond game play...
he was helpful when i played him as a newb
he gave me advise on how to be better
he was knowledgable
he was/is in Strategic Insomniacs (KuBrick also awesome)
he played great
he was kind
he did not swear
he had a welcoming Hello how are you
he was over 1400 stats
Maybe he is not the best in your mind Bottle but he is above and beyond in mine

I did the exact same things as well. As do most greys who get into SI. They take only the best greys (or used to; the selection process is starting to get a bit ragged with our leader away).

Yes, those things made Haywood a great person and player. But there are others who do that too.

I have noticed another quality about Haywood that does not apply to you sir. SWOLLEN EGO.
However I must give it to you that you are getting better for it has been about 10 posts since you mentioned how "great" you are.
