Burning Rune
-----------------

Attack: 20
Attack range:

AAABRAAA

Movement range: N/A
Hit points: 50
Armor: 15
Blocking: 100% all sides
Recovery: 5 turns

Strategy: the blocks marked A are ignited with fire until damaged when activated. anything that passes through it will lose 20HP ignoring armor and if there is a unit that is already in it, it will lose 20HP and if a unit is in the fire for 1 of its turns at the end of your opponents turn it will lose another 10HP.

Wow. Can you say "Broken"?

Can you hit the burning rune to stop the flame? like a barrier ward

Also if it burns for five and has a recovery of five you could keep it going forever. Either lower how long the flames go for increase recovery time.

I think the unit isn't very effective in the game. Like the lightning ward all you have to do is avoid it and your are fine. However the difference with the lightning ward is you can put ranged attacks inside and have them attack while being protected by the lwards range. The burning rune, while can work as a block isn't as effective.

Definitly not the worst idea i've seen though

Hey man don't worry it was your first unit and units are rather hard to make. Don't get discouraged and give up. As long as you have an imagination and some understanding of the game your units will improve.

My first idea was to get a knight and give it more HP and Armour... thats just crazy i tells ya.

However you just gotta get past the people who don't bother to spend the time to think about how your unit could improve and focus on other things. What i do when i make a unit is a think of the most similar unit (usually the assassin but it's different whether you are making a fighter, magician or contraption) and try to make sure my unit has pros and cons compared to that unit and think about what would happen if they fought, would it be too one sided and stuff like that.

I actually don't think it would be all that bad... needs to be stronger, certainly. Say 3 recovery, cross-shaped burn. And I assume it's a focus unit... same question duff asked. Also, maybe make it burn indefinitely? Maybe you already did that (I didn't see the unit before the edit, so I'm not sure what duff is talking about). That would certainly make it better. If you use a turn to start it up, your opponent should use a turn to stop it. The best thing about this unit is that it should do very well against knights. Also, it might discourage turtling and make maneuvering a bit more strategic. So maybe these would be the new stats:

Attack: 20
HP: 50
Armor: 15 (or 20, maybe?)
Blocking: 100% all sides
Recovery: 3 turns

Attack pattern: Focus Burn Spell, raises fire on tiles in a 3-tile cross.

A
A
A
AAABAAA
A

Maybe when a unit passes through, it should only lose 15 instead of 20 HP. It'll need some thought. 17 or 18, perhaps?

Tactics
Due to its attack pattern and the fact that it ignores armor, the Burning Rune should fare very well against knights. It should also be good against beast riders and assassins, since they attack with a close-range melee and have relatively high armor/low HP.

Burning Rune and Barrier ward should make for a powerful combination. Once the Burning Rune is activated, the BW can keep it going for a long time, and the fire could even keep attackers away from the Barrier Ward.

The Burning Rune should also work well in conjunction with teleporters, as they can bypass the flames without sustaining damage.

It should lend itself to a loose turtle. Not too tight, because it would restrict movement, but not too spread out, because the effects would not be as helpful.

Eh, sorry that was so long. I just keep on writing and writing and writing and...
