View Full Version : Barriering An Unoccupied Space

I was playing against nads yesterday when I realized my Dark Magic Witch would be blasted by his Dragon next turn. I had a Barrier Ward (I didn't use any drops, but that's beside the point), and I thought it would be awesome to barrier an unoccupied space (Thus, the title of the requested suggestion).
With this new feature, the Barrier Ward would have another "interesting" use to its abilities - Such as using an empty space filled with a "barrier". This could be used as a wall that has 100% blocking. Usually, the most common choice for walls to block opposing units is the Knight, but then you can place your Knight elsewere, relying on the barrier to do its bidding.
P.S. If I wasn't going to be shot by a Scout the following turn, breaking the focus of my Barrier Ward, I would have barriered the space in front of my Witch.
I hope you consider this - I think it's a pretty useful feature, and I hadn't seen it suggested before.
Thank you for your time. :)
That would have been annoying, grrr....
You played a good game.

have you tried barriering an unoccupied space? Maybe you can, but no one knows it...

I've tried, but no, it doesn't work. I thought it'd add a unique aspect to the game :rolleyes:

In that case, you should be able to.... I mean, you can attack an empty square with every other unit.

focus spells (currently) don't work on empty spaces. You can attack empty spaces, but focus spells are kinda different. At least the way i see it, they modify the status of a unit, and modifying a non-unit would be a little awkward. I'm just guessing, but it might take a bit of coding to do it (perhaps seed could make it so that the BW summons an invisible shrub and barrier's it?).
In any case, i think the BW is the most under-rated unit as it is. Someone who knows how to use it properly will save 2 or 3 units a game with it. Adding this extra ability would make it WAY too good imho. Although, i'm not saying i wouldn't use it if this function was added :)

Before the server wipe I used 2 BWs, it was great. At first I went in with my scout and sniped off units (BWing him while he waited) and then I used them on my 'chantress.
I'm all for BWing an empty space.

I agree, allowing the barriaring of empty spaces would be a good addition to the game.

Well, the suggestion was mainly for people that cannot use BWs good, and just to add a new addition to the game - You know, something new is always good.
I agree BoBo, in certain cases it might be considered somewhat "overpowered", but can you give me some brief examples?
Thanks for the feedback, everyone who posted above me... er, below me, I guess. :)
Cheers,

it'd make me think on implementing it again..
I used a 2 bw setup early one when I was playing (it was different and nobody did it then) but i've since moved on and stopped using it.

Then how does the enchantress work?

Another good idea is barrieing a bush from furgon, I think that would make the game pretty intresting.

Well, I suppose it would, but it wouldn't really be useful.
Why? Because if you barrier a shrub, it would be the same as barriering an empty space, thus making the barrier more useful than a single shrub for it cannot be destroyed unless the Barrier Ward is hit out of focus, and it can block Scout LOS as well.
The shrubs are less useful than the idea of "Barriering An Unoccupied Space" that I suggested. However, what the 'empty barriered space" makes up in usefulness, the shrubs win with quantity, or amount, if you will.
So basically, they both have their own unique aspects - All you need to find out is what works better for you! :)

I used to use 2 BW setups, they work wonders with enchantresses.
Anyhow, putting a barrier on an empty space is interesting... it has the trade-off of not fully protecting a unit, but allowing all your units to move without losing the barrier. It might be a bit overpowered in that you could use it to wall people in easily, but I don't think that's too big a deal.
The biggest problem I can think of is that having a sheild bubble over an empty space would look really funny ;)
BTW, can you actually barrier shrubs? It says on the main page under the March 3rd update, "Shrubs cannot be the target of healing or focus spells".

Also on that note, you could use it as a replacement wall.
EX:
|S|K|B|L|
S = Scout
K = Knight
B = Barriered space
L = Lightning Ward
-- See what I mean by replacing a Knight as a wall? Just an example.

Has anyone considered this?
