We need a place to gather and to gather the skulls of the enemies we defeat.

To start the first - Kensai reporting in.

To start the second - I took out two Dark Shadows today. From now on I have a place to report their names. :)

Crosby 2 bites the dust.

A weird battle. He pyro'd and witched me once, then uttered a profanity, apologised and disappeared. Hmm.

How dare another newb clan take try to use the name Pyro.

The pyro pyrates should destroy, just 'cause I have nothing better to do.

Looks like the clan thread has been invaded.

Pyros is not my call for clan name, Serge. That's something you'll need to take up with the clan leader, poo62.. who is clearly not a noob even though I am. I'm sure he'll be happy to defend our right to the name in a bout. If not, I'll gladly step in.

Dragon Knights - presently my clan has no website, so I figured it would be nice to have at least some area to gather in for discussions; hence this thread. It's a bit awkward, though, that out of the three people who have posted in it, I am the only Pyros. *g*

Well, let's make it four people :)

You shoud try out proboards.com, they have an easy to use message board system, and it doesn't cost anything.

(edit: Regdar-'s gender. Apologies, I meant no offense when referring to my opponent as a he. I did not know, and think that most who play this game are male.)

Regdar- of the Thieves Guild (gold, rating 1304 now. Note the dash at the end of the name when checking for ratings) asked me to relay a message. She wants a fight with our clan leader.

It's rather educational to fight with a skilled Gold. The battle against the Seven clan leader was interesting as well, even though he methodically ripped my fledgling army to shreds just to see whether I met his standards of Seven membership. Apparently I did, even though I did not stand a chance in the fight. Taking out even one of his twin scouts, the dragon and whatever else he had was just too costly, so my last remaining knight got peppered with arrows, amongst other forms of pain. His form of recruitment has its downsides as well.. enjoying being a Pyros, I can't really see myself joining a clan whose leader jumps on greys and takes them apart with Gold units just to see how good they are.

This time it was another story. Regdar- chose to jump me as she did not find other Golds to do battle with. She had eight units lined up on her front row, and a solitary dragon at a rear corner. The exotic ones were a Beast Rider, a Dragonspeaker Mage, a Mud Golem, and a Dragon Tyrant. I had a fairly standard lineup - LW, Barrier, Cleric, two Witches, three Knights, Scout, and an Enchantress in a defensive corner position.

Regdar- opened with a Mud Golem assault behind my lines, doing an earthquake on my support troops. I responded by electricuting a pyro, as he had the the Dragonspeaker mage on the table. A second pyro then attacked my rank of knights. I focused on killing the pyro, and did not think to heal yet... and paid for that mistake when a second earthquake killed both of my witches. My Knights killed the second pyro in return.

Attacking the softer units only, and seeing lasting damage as Regdar had no Cleric in her formation (the first time ever I've seen that in a bout) I was able to pretty much keep the pace in slaughter, as Regdar- focused more on eliminating my Cleric. A feat she easily accomplished.

When the endgame began, I had managed to paralyze the mud golem, a knight, and a scout with my chanty. The rest of the arena was fairly clear, with a Barrier Ward, LW, and two Knights the remaining fragments of my army, and the solitary dragon the only active remainder of the Regdar-'s might. Fortunately, the Barrier Ward was well defended by the Lightning Ward - definitely something I had not planned, as my formation was designed with Grey opponents in mind.

I used the Barrier to keep my knights alive on the turn when the dragon moved, and attacked the dragon from the sides only. The Knights and the Lightning Ward made it hard for the Dragon to find a way to the Barrier, and going straight for the Chanty was not an option as the Barrier could defend the Chanty anytime.

Eventually the Barrier was gone, one knight dead.. and it all came down to the last Knight attack against the dragon's side. Failing that, the Dragon would be free to roast the Chanty, freeing three units to destroy my last knight.

That was a good time not to get blocked. *g*

I dislike getting challenged by Golds as it is obviously not a level playing field. Still, the few times when I luckily do manage to defeat one have always been a treat. This particular bout was worth 22 ratings points, putting me well in the 1200s and fairly close to the top 100 requirement, which made it especially thrilling.

Of course I'm ready to kick somebody's ass. *g*

Or get mine kicked. Isn't this what the bouts are all about?

Looks like some courtesies of battle, such as formal introductions, were neglected this time.

I wonder which is more gentlemanly... to pull punches against a Golden lady, or to treat opponents equally regardless of gender?

Rather fitting, then, that your .sig says it will grind my bones and make flour of them...

*cringes in an asbestos suit*

Hmm.. what is a platinum account?

a platinum account is a special account where my scores are reset only once a month, im eligible for server unit drops, and i get THREE KNIGHTS! oh yeah! you heard me - 3 of em. knight pwnage. also, i can use a "/stat" command to check people's ratings. with a platinum account, i can chat IN GAME, i can post on the TAO forums, i can send blue "clan messages" that go to members of my clan (even if they are in a battle), and i didnt pay a dime.

exciting, no?

*gasp* Three knights??? That's awesome!

Many of the Golds I face only have two on the field. Some have but one, poor souls.

I'll need to get a Platinum account too.

I played a practice bout on Banff, using an account name with lots of l's and I's in it. Enough of those in a random combination and it becomes hard for anyone to figure out what my rating is, as the number of possible combinations goes up rather fast. I had it 10 characters long, so that's 1,024 possibilities. At 20, it would be over a million different combinations: 1,048,576 to be exact.

Anyway, the opponent was, of all possible things, called Master of Pyros (of the Hate Breed clan; rating 983). He (she?) asked me to say 'sup? to all Pyros here, especially our leader. I promised to do so - and hereby have kept that promise.

Master had an interesting setup, with the Cleric and the Barrier in opposite back row corners, the rest of the units widely spread out. I reckon that if the Barrier is rushed, the Cleric can heal it; if the Cleric is rushed, the Barrier can save the day. Both were far from the front lines, and protected from immediate witch burn. If there is no rush, the Barrier can provide support on one side, and the Lightning Ward protecting the Cleric on the other. Could work, I suppose?

As is, we did not have time to find out as Master put me on the defensive, sensing a weakness as I had a defensive formation on one side and a solitary Scout on the other. I had left the Scout just barely reachable with the Barrier, six spaces to the Scout's left. The defense my Scout had proved sufficient this time, as was demonstrated by two kills and one paralysed enemy knight against zero friendly casualties. Still, it felt foolhardy. I'll think of a safer position for my favorite archer next time.
