Mortal Kombat is a pretty washed-up franchise. Now, as for Soul Calibur 2...quite an amazing game. One of the few games where both sucky and skilled players can look equally good on the screen.

k well here's the thing about videogames. there arent enough good ones coming out right now. goddamn blizzard for delaying starcraft2 for so long WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT FOR A GAME THAT GOT GAME OF THE YEAR 3 YEARS IN A ROW AFTER ITS RELEASE. anyways i cant wait for that to finally finish, but until then im playin baldur's gate on XBox as well as destroying everyone in my sight at halo (as of yet UNDEFEATED in 1v1, challenge me if u will), and gonna be playing World of Warcraft when it comes out. anyways who here is a starcraft fan? i still play that game sometimes too...

It's definitely had it's run and been overly-exploited to it's last dollar. I think the movies simply killed anyone interest in the game and killed alot of the fanbase as well. But with the talks and reviews coming from EGM and Gamespot, saying their new fighting system will revolutionize (spelling?) the fightin genre...it's pretty exciting...of course every fighting game says this lol. But it'll be interesting to see if MK will make it's way back up the ranks as not only a fighting game, but as a franchise.

You're right, none are really coming out as expected. I say it's from the work on the new systems coming out and third party developers drooling at their chance to claim the first titles for the next gen systems. But I do like some of the line-ups that are slated to hit this fall and early next year. Starcraft....hmmm, I honestly can't play any online games other than things like TAO and crap games like on yahoo and pogo (Really shitty laptop.....26.6gb hdd, 128 mb of ram *pukes*, 1ghz pro speed), so I can't even begin to relate to that topic. Although I will definitely get a new comp just to play Matrix Online :D . Maybe then i'll try the other online games (Any suggestions ppl?).

Bah...everyone says that they're going to revolutionize a genre. I personally think that Mortal Kombat should pack up and go home. I'm personally a Street Fighter and Tekken boy, myself.

definitely try starcraft. i suggest u find a friend who plays the game already to give you a couple lessons because if u simply go online and join a random game, chances are you will get dragged into the world of fast money (not cool n00b style maps) and will get obliterated no matter wut u join and hate the game and quit. lets just say its been out long enough that there aint a huge % of newbs out there. unless they are my teammate for a 2v2, they always find me.....

Here's the first review for this thread. They will all be Xbox reviews on my part since it's the only console I have.

Summary:

You're a young kid in the "Wild West" , excited your dad just got home from gold mining. Showing you his new gun he hands you your own and tells you to go to the river to practice. Soon after getting some shots in, your house is raided by thieves and you're forced to have a shoot out resulting in your dad being shot right in front of you. 12 years later, your adventure begins.

I was very skeptical of this game. An old western game....what the hell could be so much fun about this? Why is this even a game? I said fock it and grabbed it off the rental shelves anyway (Having faith in Rockstar Games) and popped it in the ol Box. Turns out....it's not bad at all :p

Gameplay: The game play is pretty simple. You move with the left thumbstick and turn/aim with the right. Left trigger sets aim mode and right trigger shoots. It's that easy. I was amazed there was showdowns in this game. Sure it's a western..it has to have em. But, you have to realize this game was slated to come out over a decade ago. But they're awesome. You have to move the right thumbstick back, then forward to draw....you then have about 6 seconds to have hit red targets that appear on your opponents body and head. Sweetness.

Difficulty: It's hard to judge this one. I got up the 13 mission pretty quick but it took quite a few tries to get there. It's easy, but not simple (if that makes sense).

Graphics: The graphics are impressive. Character models are detailed and smooth. Backgrounds extend and fade out instead of popping up to save RAM. Details on the levels are just right. With dust kicking up when you walk to richochets bouncing, it all comes together without problems or annoying game glare.

Camera: It's a little tough with let's say....trees around and you wanna look down at an enemy. They show no mercy with camera angles but it's easy to get around them with the POV camera movements.

Sound: VERY VERY NICE! I like the voice acting and the sounds in this game. All crisp, clear and on point. You won't hear any skips or distant voices when moving around in this game.

Replay Value: It has tons of it. Not only is this single player. But, there's also multiplayer modes called "Showdowns". You bascially shoot the crap out of each other and when someone dies, they drop a card. So you basically shoot each other to play poker lmfao.

Weapons: Nothing really major here. Just old fashioned guns with upgrades.

Extras: You get to unlock journal pages in order to.......who knows. Also, you get to use bulls and horses on some levels to get better movement.

Welp, that's all I can think of for this game. I'll add anything if i missed it. But overall it's a great game and it has some good content. I usually do Pro's and Con's for reviews...but this game has no cons whatsoever (RARE!). So there you have it. I give this game an 8 out of 10. Good Job Rockstar!

I liked Tekken.....but I only liked the first one. Just went downhill for me from there. and DOA?! Are you nuts? lol. I'm champion in my town. I held a tournament last year for DOA2 Hardcore (PS2) and DOA3 (XBOX) and lost only 2 matches out of 150. I must say, I own in that game :D I can't wait for DOA Ultimate to come out. Well, the problem with Tekken is that it's not as flashy as some of the other stuff out now. But I think Tekken reached its prime with Tekken 3...nothing as better before or after that.

As for the DOA series...yeah, I played it but I guess they don't impress me much.

well first of all battle.net usage is FREE after u buy the game so all u gotta do is make an account which consisted of choosing an usused name, and typing your pass in twice, and hitting ok. then sign on and you are in! :):)

And ugh, FF. I have a hatred for RPG's and turn based fighting. I think TAO is acceptable for me simply cuz it's a strategy turn based fighting game. You're not huddled in 1 space with no way of moving or pretty much setting up a defense. FF you're sorta forced to just sit there and fight it out or run. Blah. Although......I love FF VII and FF X. For some reason they struck a cord with me and captured my attention. But FF is a big series and it is for a reason. So I can't mock it ^_^

Is it part of the Panzer Dragoon saga? I had the original Panzer back when Saturn came out. Didn't play it much, but it was decent. And might I suggest www.gamefaqs.com ^_^

I loved Final Fantasy VII

I loved Final Fantasy III more. Kefka pwnz all.

I kind of liked FFX, regardless of the fact that the boss was a clam (which it was not, but instead Jecht, which was far less lame). It was FFX-2 that I was dissapointed with. Yea, it was a sequel... but only 3 playable characters, no new areas to explore, and a subg-par level/job/skill system imo.

Ultimecia was allright.
Omega Weapon was lame-ish.
'The End' magic rivaled Knights of the Round in uber lame-ness.
The fact that monsters kept with your level was pretty keen, could have been better.
Guardian forces were typical FF... good.
The gardens were.... just wierd. I didn't like the idea of mercenary thing ... getting paid on a regular basis. Just ick.

I just saw yet another news story about how parents are upset at the violence in video games and their "adult themes", and this just makes me sick. I don't have any children but, I feel it's not the governments responsibility to control what games we should play. It's a job for the PARENTS. Parents complained ALOT about GTA3 and VC...saying it's disguisting how you can go around shooting innocent people and blow up cop cars and such. Do these parents have the right to the title "PARENT"? To me, no. This is the same group of parents who give $50 to their child to buy a game....and when they get home and see what they're playing, start complaining. YOU gave your kid money and didn't even bother to go with him to review what it is he's buying cuz you wanted to go shopping for jewelry or get your nails done or go get sneakers or some shit. These are the same group of people who go out to dinner, leave their son or daughter in front of the TV like it's a babysitter...and then complain when their kids flip out on them cursing and fighting and blame it on violence in shows and movies. If you can't take responsibility for the safety and well being of your child, then you shouldn't let them play video games or watch tv. If you can't teach your kid the difference between computer animation and reality....you've got some parenting to do. I don't wanna start gettin carded just for buying a GTA series game or some new "mature" themed game.

Final Fantasy 7's graphics may have sucked, but it's plot, in, and cinemas were second to NONE at the time it came out. I also really liked the battle system for FF 7. Ach, if you think Tidus was fruity, look at some of the characters in some of the up-coming FFs ;). I thought all the characters on FF-10 were pretty cool atually. The system used for gaining new abilities and stats was unique and cool too, ditto for the battle system. Making your own weapons and upgrading the aeons was fun too actually *I have a Shiva with every single ability and her stats are nearly maxed out :)*. I liked FF-X2 though. It was a great game, but disappointing in the fact it didn't live up to the game it came from. Final Fantasy 8 just sucked. I hated it. FF 9 was kinda cool. Haven't got 4-6 yet :(. Final Fantasy 3 could own all the other FFs put together, except 10 and 7. FF 3 could take on 10 and 7 and win though. And Kefka did not rock. He was annoying as hell. He did a good job as the villian though. I wanted to kill him even more every second I saw him. Shadow was the best character from FF 3 HANDS DOWN. Everyone here play FF Tactics? If you haven't, THEN GET THE HELL OFF YOUR ASS AND GO TO GAMESTOP AND GET IT SO YOU CAN BRING AN AMAZING GAME INTO YOUR LIFE YOU PIECE OF FETRID CRAP! Oh, and grab me a couple of pizzas, and FFs 4-6 on your way. Roundtables, Pepperoni and sausage, extra large.

LoL, yeah but it's worth it...it gives such a surreal experience. Dark room, surround sound and a decent desk to support the right height for the controls and pedals.....makes the game so much better than any other game i've played. It's insane!

I do that too..;.anyway...the GCN version of madden is the worst version 9though not bad)...it doesnt have the online play of the ps2 version...and it doesnt have the sharp graphics of the xbox version...but lets stop comparing systems...itll be better off that way:)

I LOATH sports games with a passion usually reserved for sex. And how could you like FF 8? Terrible in-game and battle graphics, no improvement on FF 7s cinema graphics, a hard as hell to figure out system for improving weapons and learning new abilities. Badly made system for taking on mercenary missions and a card game that could have been cool but needed serious refining. The plot was okay, not great, and started out far too slow. Compared to the other games of the FF series, I see FF 8 as the blacksheep.

yep very sweet system. I expect you will choose your race and gender only, and your class and skills will be developped as you go, giving the opportunity for things like a necromatic fighter who concentrates on venom and curses, but is still tough and effective, unlike the small look that diablo II gave us into this realm. Damn straight! But I would like to see some radio controllers so objects don't block the signal. Also would like to see something like the VMU memory cards that dreamcast had. It was cool as hell to pick plays on madden right from the tiny screen so your opponent can't see what play you picked :p

Yeah me too. It seems console makers never take time to actually design a system for looks instead of functionality. I do give props to Sony for making the PS2 not only functional with a some what style-ish look...but the whole upright function as well. BTW, did you know you can move that little PS logo on the PS2 cd-rom drive to make it upright while the PS2 is standing? Small, but pretty cool of sony.

Yep, thrity foot-range through, anything, I have my GC in my entertainment system with the cabinent closed so you can't see the system when I am playing, it impresses people who don't know about the wireless controllers when they see Madden 04, on the screen but no system in sight.

Sadly, I can't :( . My 1 way cable modem (dial up cable...explain that one :rolleyes: ) prevents me from playing any games online do to my max of 48kbps upload speed. Found out the hard way when Midtown Madness 3 first came out and I kept gettin booted out of every game =\. BTW, how is it?

Pandora Tomarrow is aboslutely over the top friggin great :). Online play is perfectly balanced between Shadow Nets and Mercs, I usually find groups of cool people to play with that don't get pissy when they lose, and most of all, the maps kick ASS. I prefer Shadow Nets over mercs though. I get a sick enjoyment out of grabbing a guy's from behind and whispering into his ear "I'm a monkey Mr. Anderson" then snapping his neck.

Yeah, but that's an old article....it's the only one I found that was decent enough to look at and also featured the casing. Newer news on it posts the same pic. Seeing as how E3 is going on, and no new pics have surfaced...I'm assuming that's it. But you may be right. Most of the time I drooled over the pic instead of actually reading the articles. Although it's pretty decent that it's a TBS game, there's no multiplayer as of right now. Which sux. Also, look at the streaming videos under the article...mainly, PSP Demonstration. have you played MAGS s00? the vehicles are quite good rip-offs of the Halo ones, the multiplayer is pretty dead on, though much faster with fewer ppl (since it cant system link)

yeah, the story line is WAY different, its not an FPS (its 3rd person) and you can carry more guns... all that said though, i'll stand by my opinion that it is the closest thing to Halo we gamecube (and PS2, i think) owners are gonna get... and when i say that, i mean in the multiplayer aspect of it

trust me, i'm seriously considering getting an Xbox... but i cant make up my mind between it or a PS2, because PS2 has lots of light gun shooters (all the time crisis games) and tons more RPGs than either Xbox or GC

Nah, it was actually brand new. I tried G4 Tech TV's walkthrough on how to fix the whole Disc Read Error problem, but only succeded (spelling?) in making the DVD drive malfunction. So basically, it's like I never touched the PS2 LoL.

trust me, i'm seriously considering getting an Xbox... but i cant make up my mind between it or a PS2, because PS2 has lots of light gun shooters (all the time crisis games) and tons more RPGs than either Xbox or GC

Are you looking into have a bigger game library? Or just getting a good value out of your next system? Because there's alot to think about when choosing a game system. PS2 has a wide of games. With PS2, you get a great game selection, with awesome third party support. But you also have to consider PS2's suicide rate. Everyone i've ever known to have a PS2, has complained about it "ticking" or giving those disc read errors"

Xbox has better functionality, system specs, and hardware. It doesn't have the best game library, but it does have an awesome one. Exclusive games, non purchase of a hard drive (no memory cards!!!! yay!), online without buying a HD or anything, but you do need to purchase a DVD kit to get DVD playback.

There's alot of reasons to buy a system or choose which one you. My suggestion, go rent them at blockbuster or borrow them from a friend.....then sit down and dedicate to renting some games for each system, and then sit down and play em. Try before you buy ^_^.

i'm gonna go out on a limb here, but i agree with ach and gerudo, GTA sucks, its an amazing game, but it is no longer the game definer it used to be, let it die or actually add something new to it, dont just keep giving ppl new cities to play in

Well, the new one is supposed to add new "sims" type elements in it. Not only do you have to have missions, you also have to eat, recruit gang members, work out, i'm guessing sleep or rest, the cities are 5 times larger than GTA 3, no loading times while in game, new vehicles and such. I'm actually pumped to play it....but since my ps2 crapped out on me....i'll have to wait till I purchase another :(

Side note: I'm in the process of "Attaining" Rollercoaster Tycoon 3. You're supposed to be able to ride whatever is in your park. From rollercoasters to kiddie rides to semi-thrill rides. I'm excited to play it since i've recently came across NoLimit Rollercoaster Simulator. All you do is ride coasters that you build. It also comes with real rollercoaster models from real parks around the world. It's actually pretty kickass ^_^.

I'm not dissappointed with San Andreas. It's better than Vice City. However, they shouldn't be bragging about the "no-loading time" thing. The load times before missions and between cutscenes can get crucial, but I have no other complaints with the game. Though they did up the swearing, a lot. Which I don't exactly like.

EDIT: I'm talking "Saving a franchise on Madden '05 for Gamecube", crucial...

And Slippy, my PS2 has never even given a hit of breaking on me. :cool:

Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 Review!

Pre Play

After playing Rollercoaster Tycoon 1 and 2...I was left feeling a little dissapointed. With my creating the biggest and baddest friggin park around....I saw no use for playing them anymore. But, with this new installment to the series...the previews, screenies, and features...really caught my attention and got me excited. Having recently downloaded NoLimits Rollercoaster Simulator (http://www.nolimitscoaster.com/) and having a little fun with that....I was amped at anything rollercoaster-ish.

Gameplay

Man, as I suspected...this game kicks ass. This time around they're introducing an awesome tutorial in case you're a n00bler or simply forgot how to play. The tutorial is in-depth and very simple to follow. There's also an option to create your own group of people (Of course I had to make my group the 9 members of slipknot). You can name, choose outfits, hair color, skin color, attitude/mood, and outfit color. You can make from 1-15 members in 1 group, and even make a group leader. Tons of new options, parks, rides, attractions, and more. Nothing gets repetative or tiresome. One of the new more exciting features that caught my attention upon taking a look at it...was the new coaster cam function. Where whatever ride you build at your park...big or small....you can ride it from a riders point of view. This adds a whole new twist when you look at your customers and wonder why they're "Feeling sick" LoL. There's also an option to make your own timed/scheduled fireworks show. From long spiraling sparks, to those big ass colored spheres that you see at every fireworks show. Everything is customizable in this game. Schweet!

Graphics

The graphics in this game are great! Unlike some of todays more popular and detailed games (Doom 3 for example), RT3 doesn't require you to have the most advanced vid card on the market for you to enjoy the experience fully. Shadows are crisp, no weird glitches when you tilt the camera a certain way, there's absolutely no drop in framerate when riding a coaster, and everything stays in place. When you first intall the game, it will tell you "Best played with an ATI Radeon video card" , then they do a shameless plug for it. So it might be good if you have an ATI don't you think?

Sounds

The sounds in this game are fun. You hear the crowd chattering about while you build or ride the park. When you zoom in the crowd gets louder and louder, and you can even hear conversations in certain groups. You can tell Atari spent quite some time on this game, perfecting it right down to conversations. I wish they would of done the same with Driv3r :rolleyes: .

Real Time Cam - Zoom in extremely close to any object in your park
Better Awards - Better or worse, awards for your parks

Overview

This game is fun, entertaining, a great time killer, and has some really neat-o features. The added bonuses (that I will not mention) really give you a sense of realism to building your park. The new rollercoaster options are up to date with real rollercoasters. The music, the environments and options, and scale of potential for creating a nice park is astounding. The only real drawback to this game is it's camera. You can't really have it sit in a specific spot that you want it to be in. It always "rubberbands" back to a certain angle, which can make coaster building a hassle and a burden. Other than that...this game kicks ass!

Gerudo, I get the feeling you don't really llike video games all that much, so stay out of this thread if you don't have anything positive to say.

GTA: SA is getting better. The best mission I've done so far involves a crazy gunfight against like 20 Russians, and then a crazy motorcycle race. It was sweet. One of the best features of the game is the stat system. The more you drive, ride bicycles, or ride motorcycles, the higher your stat in each gets. With higher driving stat you can enter more dificult races, while better motorbike and regular bike stats keep your guy from falling off in minor collisions. There is also a stat for each gun, letting you target from farther away. It's pretty cool.

The next game I want to get is the Mario Tennis game for Gamecube. It looks like it's gonna be great.

Here's an idea for all of you to ponder. Why do you play video games? I personally play to live out things that will NEVER happen, such as those from Zelda or Final Fantasy.
