Nothing like 4 straight losses to make you rethink your strategy.

And just when I thought I was getting kind of ok. :D

So anyone have any suggestions? Obscure tactics I should use?

Come on! I'm begging ya. ;)

I assume you're grey, have you won any extra units or are you playing with the standard compliment?

A True Cleric Rush formation, with dragon

Bringing a book fulla beatdown (http://doa2400.tripod.com/friendlysetup/id1.html)

A Friendly Setup

Oh so friendly (http://doa2400.tripod.com/friendlysetup/index.html)

Here's a couple off the wall formation ideas, they are both gold and rely on some unit drops, but i think they are adaptable (be warned tripod sucks)

I'm actually waiting on my Gold and I snagged an assasin from the drops.

So anything applies. :D

Also, Jack the cleric rush is a winner. I can't wait to grab enough clerics to try it out. It would work great until your oponent figured it out. After that they'd get booted for cursing your black soul!

:D

Well, when making a formation I always try to decide whether I want to play defensively or offensively. Whenever I split my units between the two, I tend to lose. I do a turtle formation now. 1 or 2 clerics, usually 1. I put them in the corner, covered by three knights and a barrier ward. Lightning ward 4 spaces in front of cleric to stop a witch rush from killing him. witch, scout, and another witch in a row in front of the knights, and the enchantress 3 squares to the side of the cleric, back row of course. The setup is in the upper left corner.
c=cleric, k=knight, b=barrier ward, w=witch, s=scout, L=lightning ward, e=enchantress, - = empty square, N=out of arena
n n n c k -
n n k k b e
n - w s w -
n - - - - -
n - - L - -

On an unrelated note, how does the cleric rush work? Do you just barrier ward them? Explain the trick to me, i'm a little slow :-)

As far as I get it:

The trick is to play on a TAO players natural instinct to go for clerics. So you ward them and then run amok with the scouts and the tyrant. You can even switch up the warding to stop your oponents advances.

With that many wards anything is possible. :D

Am I on the right track Jack?

No offense LondonJack, but I completely disagree with Fungi about your formatinons. Your cleric rush formation has 3 units, and I don't care how many times you can heal, those units can't beat a formation with 6 or 7 attacking units. Also, the "cleric distraction" means nothing; when you start attacking people with the scouts and dragons, they'll focus on them to stop them. Anyway, clerics die so quickly that the barriers won't be able to do much, especially since they can't be healed in the barriers. Imagine this: I attack your cleric; you barrier your cleric; i attack the barrier; you heal your cleric; it still dies from the next attack, as long as it wasn't 2 pyros doing the attacking. The barrier wards aren't protected either, it'd be hard to use them well.

Your other formation isn't too strong either. Your ice golem is rendered inneffective by its lack of defense. If you froze something, the golem would be hit next turn most likely by a caster or scout. Your knights are oddly positioned, and can easily be hit by a witch or DSM/Pyro. The two clerics seem nice, but w/o any sort of protection besides the barrier wards, i can't imagine them surviving very long. A single scout could get into position, and pick away at the clerics and barrier wards. Since your only defense to that would be a scout and possibly an ice golem, you're not in good shape.

I was just joking.

Anyway. I found a variant formation I like. That and I got my gold. So I'm feeling a little better.

(No I did not lose my first two battles with my gold units to greys. It's a lie! A dirty dirty lie! :D )

Wow monkus, took you two long paragraphs to state the obvious. Maybe next time you will take a second to consider that they might be joke formations.
