View Full Version : Money Money Money and Levels

I think it would be awesome if after every battle you win you gain a certain amount of money. This money saved up after many battles could buy new units. The amount of money you get from each battle would be decided on how quickly you defeated your opponent and how many units you had left. Every unit could be bought at the "recruitment center" But you could only have a maximum of 3 units of one kind on your team. Maybe Golems and the dragon tyrant could be bought to for a ton of money.
Alright my second idea. After each battle you go to a screen where it shows how much experience each of your units earned. To gain experience one of ure units must hurt another one depending on the type ofunit you attacked with, how much damage you caused, and how many enemies were hit could determine the amount of experience you gain. After a certain amount of experience the units level would be increased making it stronger, faster, or more armour ect. And at every inerval of 10 levels the unit would be upgrade into a better unit like a scout into a frontiersmen into a ranger into a skilled bowsman. This would just make the unit look cooler.
I Hope you enjoyed my ideas please post replies on what you thought. :D

Money, maybe, as long as units are kept balanced with each other (so one person doesn't have a distinct advantage by having more of a certain type of unit). But the levels thing would just screw up the game, methinks.
I mean, then it would become basically a MMORPG: whoever spends the most time playing gets the strongest stuff, and thus is able to do the best. This game should be about tactics, not time.

1) Doesn't make in-game sense.
2) Makes the game less tactical. Don't kill for the sake of killing, kill to improve your position.
3)Makes random blocking even more of an advantage to the lucky.
4)Even more difficult to recover from superior forces and superior setups.
5)Too complicated. This is TAO, not RPGAO.
6)Pointless. What need does this fulfill?
Posted in the thread Vetrancy: Kills = upgrade
similar idea.
I like the idea in terms of Tactics ogre and FF tactics, which are RPG's, but this is an online game where the semblence of equality is important ;) (i love you too xyx)

The money idea isnt bad (Of course still elaving some units available to gold members only - support the game!), but the level idea - definetly not!

Well, but that thread was about within the same battle: if you Knight gets a kill, he gets an upgrade for that battle, not forever. Thus, people would still start out with characters at the same level, so you don't have the inequality, which is, as you stated, the big problem.

This idea has some advantages and some disadvantages. If you could go up in levels that would make the the game more interesting(for the gold members) and then more addicting and would attract more gold members adding tons of other things to the game.
On the other hand I don't like the unfairness of major advantages. This is meant so that a gold account can get beaten by a free account. Not so that a free account gets decimated by a gold account that has strong units. To add to that free accounts would be even more mad at gold members. Kinda a good news, bad news situation. Well this is my opinion.

I was going to post another of my "Bad idea" posts, but it seems Azn beat me too it...
I'll add a few more reasons though.
1. Too much advantage for killing newbs. If implemented, gain money on win based on how good your opponent is. I wouldn't neccesarily be against this.
2. All units need to be the same all the time for the sake of simplicity.
3. Don't kill units to gain xp, kill units to win the game.
4. I know this has already been posted, but it's worth restating: This game is TAO, not RPGAO.

I was going to post the thing about the money. Allow me to share my ideas. (The lvls idea is bad, it would ruin the whole point of strategy.)
1) Good units, such as the dragon, or units with 100% blocking, such as the Lightning Ward would be worth less than easier to kill units at the end of games, maybe even worth nothing.
2) Players with stronger units and teams would gain hardly any money unles they vrsed a team of equal or higher strength or value of units.
3) People who manage to kill a team stronger than their own would gain a nice cash bonus.
Also I have another idea, gambling/staking.
1) When going into a match, the opponents can select a unit to stake. (Must have enough units to make a full board still.)
2) Quite simple, the loser loses the unit they gambled and the winner wins it.
About the gambling, there should be a restriction on time played, because it could easilly abused. So only someone who has played around 200 matches can stake units, or something like that.

I think it would be cool to allow players to earn money in order to purchase usless "upgrades" to their units. Stuff like new uniforms and whatnot that doesn't affect the gameplay at all but can allow you to personalize your army a bit more. Of course, then the modellers would have to make up a bunch of new sprites, which'll take time and money and also increase the game's size making it harder for dialup players to load the game. It'd still be cool, though.
