Here is an idea.

Maybe do a spearman with the same basics as the scout but with a longer reload time and maybe smaller defense.

Also I have seen the idea for a close range healer, I like it.

what is the use of a scout that is weaker on 2 things (reload and defense)... and have no advantage

I'm seriously against overpowered units.. but noone will field this one when the have scouts :P

maybe increase range and power?

or movement?

I thought about a spearman type of units, how about this?

Spearman / Pikeman

Move 2
Hit Points - 40
Armor - 20 %
Power - 15
Recovery Time 1
Attack Pattern - 2 spaces straight, 1 space diagonal, LOS (Can't hit anything two squares away if a unit is between)

Special Abilities - 60% Blocking from front (25% from sides), Counter Attack (50%)

Spearman is a fair defensive unit, with good reach and decent power. Movement is lower than most units, but that extended reach can compensate.

When Attacked, there is a 50% chance that Spearman will counterattack. A Counterattack is made as a regular attack, except that the attack is automatically targeted at the enemy unit triggering the attack. Counter attacks deal damage at 85% power.

Would a counter-attack ability be worthwhile? Would people find it useful?

He could as normal... or, alternatively, he could have a lower chance to counter but do more damage if he does.

It would be interesting to see how they would animate that though. Maybe they would break his nose with the butt of the spear, or swing the spear around. I suppose they'll just do the regular thing of turning around lightning fast and blocking with a *ping* sound, but it's fun to speculate.

Yeah I like that... But perhaps something like this... if there are two guys in front of the spear in a row...


OXX (O-spearmen) (X-Enemy) then he could hit both, maybe the second at half damage. Regarding the counterattack, I don't think you should be able to counter attack from the back... because you can't really block from the back, so why counterattack? And I don't think it would be too overpowered if his HP and movement rate were kept down as magic users and archers could tear him up fairly well.
But I do think that his power should be boosted, maybe to 25ish... because with a power of 15, hes going to be hitting for like nothing against the second guy, and not even that much against the first. I think the spearman/pikeman/lancer even (I like lancer more, but going on most RPG's and such lancers jump) should be a strong attacking (good damage, ability to hit two, counter attack) but weak HP and movement rate.
