Greys beating golds is always possible. In fact, many times, the golds will get a bit cocky when facing greys. I just got out of a game in which I beat a gold (as a grey), simply because this person had little strategy. He had a spread out formation including a Dragon, 2 scouts, a lightning ward, cleric, Frost Golem, Mud Golem, Beast Rider, and a knight. It was very spread out, with the ward in the middle and the dragon protecting the cleric. He wasn't completely devoit of strategy, but it was one of those opportunities for a grey to shine, and I was aggressive, relentless, and smart. My witch was lost almost immediately to the Dragon, and I lost my cleric early to a scout trick shot + a beast rider around the back. However, he put a scout in a bad position, and I took it out with Pyro/LW, and I continued to overpower his units until he surrendered at this point. Greys: When you're going against a gold that is spread out, like he was, one thing you should do is gang up on a unit. It's important to take out their cleric (if they have one), because she makes it much harder to kill a unit when it's being healed. Kill the units as fast as possible, and don't try to focus on many units at once.
Will greys beat golds more often than they lose? Probably not, but it's important to remember that you must keep hope. It's possible, just be smart!

You won pretty convincingly as well. Congrats.
If you going up against anyone you should always gang up on a unit... no matter what setup they have the most important thing to do is kill their unit not just damamge it. If you are going to attack a unit, do it properly.

Check out the Gold Jumpers from banff, they get over 1000 beating golds only, squiggly (the leader) got about 1264, and then took a dip after playing some really powerful golds.

While it is true that greys can beat golds, it is improbable. Unfortunately this game doesn't have the best unit balance across the board. So greys automatically have a disadvantage against golds.

grey units are just as good as gold units exept the broken gold units *cough*mud golem *cough*. Think about it a Dragon is a turn consuming moster that counts as two units. The Furgon is a doomed creature to LOS. the golems other than muddy are also dead because of LOS. If greys could have 2 scouts we would rule.

But we don't. and with only one LOS unit all golds have to do is kill the one scout and their units worth is up ten fold.

I'm am sorry to say that no, it is not improbable that a grey will beat a gold. A grey who knows what he/she is doing will take out your average gold. I just added another gold to my tally last game, I started this when I joined the gold jumpers, so far I am on 26 golds down, with no repeats of the same lousy golds. My aim is to break half a century before the next server wipe.... and these golds are not necesarilly all bad. The only ones below 1100 are grey jumpers, which I jump to put them back in their place (which is sometimes below 750), and the best that I have managed was ranked 3rd in GL....which isn't exactly a true rating, but whatever....
What I find in most of my games is that if I kill all of their ranged units (scouts, muddie, frostie) then my enchantress along with my barrier ward can take out up to four units, usually about two or three - including a dragon. As for furgons, I only kill them if they have well and truly pissed me off. However they are only good in the hands of someone who knows how to use them, most of the time they will also block off their units along with your own, and a pyro pretty much negates all the shrubs a furgon makes, although it has a considerably higher recovery, and scout can usually shoot through shrubs while also using them as protection from things such as dragon and knights, for long enough for you to either barrier him, or get him out of there.
But without a scout, a grey is pretty much screwed against a gold. A scout is a greys only defense or offense from frosties, stoned units, barriers (although golds rarely use these) and units on low health, running back to the protection of a turtle to get healed.
