View Full Version : Blocking
Say What?

Now through many of my games that I play...blocking has always seemed to be fair. This was untill tonight. I just finished playing haywood jablome and our game was going smoothly. Then all of a sudden....BOOM. His dragon started blocking like crazy. He got 9 blocks in a row for a total of 4/13 actual hits. I think this is a little un fair. The random generator must hate me or like playing jokes on people. I think that maybe this should be something that someone gets checked out. His dragon should have been dead. Even with 2 heals! ugh. This is the kind of game that makes u want to quit TAO!

Isn't that theory about hitting units repeatedly... not about them blocking repeatedly.
Say what? - yes the odds of this happening are slim but infact it is a chance... Lets say it's fair to say if you go on all day, on average there will be 2 floors being used. 14 tables on a floor. say each game goes for an average of 14 minutes... (makes maths easier) thats two games a minute. 4 servers... 8 games a minute. 480 games an hour, 11520 games a day, 80640 games a week, 4 204 800 games a year.
Now say the odds of a dragon blocking from the side once is 20% from the front is 40% (I don't know how many were from the front and how many were from the side so i'll just use 5 front, 4 sides). Side block happens every 5 games. Front block every 2 and a half. So on so fourth and you should get 0.000016384% chance. Every 6 103 515.625 games. Shocking isn't it.
If my maths is right (which is unlikely) you could either say i had a once in a year and a half game or the random generator is fucked. :p

the 4th sight, that theory is bull... I've tried it out, definitely does NOT work.
Duffman, I would like to protest your math... a side block does not happen once every 5 games, according to your numbers it happens once every 1.25 games.

Yeah...that theory does not work. Ive tried it lots of times.

I can't tell if you are serious or not with this post / complaint.

its like the roll of the dice...its unlikely you'll throw a 7 or 11 multiple times in a row...but not impossible. I've had a incident where a DMW and a pyro collectively blocked over 20 times. Its frusterating, but its also a nice aspect of the game as it means there is a nice luck factor involved.

I agree with megabyte... haven't any of you ever had a pyro up against two full health knights in the corner, only to come out with a smashing victory?
Ok, maybe not something quite that impressive, but you get my point.

4/13 = 0.307
Chance of dragon not blocking = 0.6
Yes it's not directly in line with it, but it's not at all impossible. And as you well know, it equals out in the end.
I believe I played someone recently who complained when my dragon blocked 7/17 from the front... do people actually understand anything about percentages?

perhaps TAO could just make something like a manual blocking system wher the kights can block 8 times and the sides count as 2 and DMWs can block twice and once from the side....................
never mind.
