geekspeach for elite. also known as 1337, |337, and several other variants. n00bs are the only ones idiot enough to think that geekspeach makes them sound cool, that's why.

xyx should post about this. he's 1337 incarnate. he's too 1337 to call himself 1337.

No, this doesn't really qualify as geekspeak. Symbol-writing is in a category of its own, though I suppose you could say they're similar in a lot of ways.
n00bs are the only ones idiot enough to think that geekspeach makes them sound cool, that's why.
Eh, for those of us who were around and using it before it went mainstream, there's still an element of old school humor to it. It's stupid, but cool because it's stupid. Kind of like using outdated slang like "radical." Sometimes it can be funny. Here's a dictionary of what I can recall off-hand:
h4x : "Hacks," as in cracking a particular program and manipulating it to do your personal bidding. Also used to describe tricky or messy coding practices, e.g., "I couldn't get that function to work without some serious h4x."
h4x0r, h4xx04, h4x0r1ng, etc. : "Hacker/Hacking;" as in one who applies or uses "h4x." Also the practice of coding, in general, as in "This project is due tommorow, I've been h4xx0ring at it all day."
pwned : Variant of "owned" as in "you got owned." Most likely root is "player killing" term coined in early days of MUDding. Hence, combination of "player killed," and "owned" = "player owned" = "pwned."
x0r family : Any verb ending in "ck" can safely be placed in the x0r family. Examples being "r0x0r, suxx0r, craxx0r, fuxx0r, hoox0r," etc. e.g., "This game r0xx0rs, hoox0r me up with that controller so I can play."
l337, 1337, l33t, etc. : "leet" or "elite." Often combined with above terms to describe particular skills at something, e.g., "l337 h4xx0ring."
n00b: If you don't know, you are one.
j00: "You," as in "j00 got pwned."

i thought it originated from a typo :)
considering that the p is located immediately next to the o on the keyboard, and the location of the letters on key keyboard, it's a pretty common typo.

Could be that, I guess. Just that the format "p<word>" has been in use for quite some time. Not so much nowadays that EverQuest has made "PVP" so popular, but back in the day "pkillers, pkill, pkilled, pthieves, ptheft, psteal," etc. were common MUD slang.
I guess the missing "o" is evidence for your theory, though. Who knows. Better yet, who cares.

LoL...FINALLY someone made it clear that "j00" means you. I can't even begin to tell you the chaos that caused on army with "religious" players when I would say "j00 bastard!"
Also if i'm not mistaken...."w00t" came from the MMORPG Everquest. Then it just spread elsewhere.
[]D [] []V[] []D is a better way to put it ^_^.

Now the real question is how do you pronounce |337 speak words like pwned? I pronounce GLers as "glers" as opposed to "gee ell ers" but how in the hell do you pronounce pwned? "pawned" but that would be dumb, also, I figured it was a typo, I often mix p's and o's...
Also, Kal, have you ever said woot aloud? It is an awesome word, even though it is |337 speak...
