I was wondering what others think about concerning etiquette in the forums. And I don't mean flaming people and such.
One thing is with Avatars. Is it impolite to use an avatar someone else has already established as theirs? Does this apply to stock avatars as well as custum or ones found on other sites?
Another thing has to do with spamming and such. I mean, spamming happens, and always will. But why is it that no matter what the subject, even if it is one that is seriously about a certain subject, get turned into a spam/flame pit? I mean, those who have no other way to build their ego but by having a huge post count should still have a slight bit of respect left for other. But it seems in these forums they don't. Unless their postings are threatened, they will spam out every thread they can find. Well this is normal, and obviously accepted, here on TAO, I have found ti usually isn;t in other places. What about the rest of you? Do they annoy the hell out of you as well.

Jeff man, I been saying this forever

the spamming is ridiculous... *glares at OP for a minute*
esp those who just give one word replies *glares at Asmodus for a very long time*

I agree with both points, Jeffery. I flame a thread from time to time, but I dont think in bad taste or at innapropriate times. It's not that hard to distinguish the right times from the wrong. Just common sense and an ounce of maturity. As for avatars, I believe in first come, first serve. People who try to copy established things ( avatars, siggies, names ) are pretty low. Just useless kids seeking attention. That's all I have.

Spamming... now what kind of forum member would do such a thing like that? Or hijack threads and talk about their car all the time. Hmm.... who would do such a thing such as that? :D

You couldn't be any more right, Jeff. I remember the thread I made about creation/evolution and at how great it was that people were posting alot and what's better is that they were long and meaningful.

Then came the usual flock of spammers and started talking about donuts, and all other irrelevant crap. I bet all of you that their response will be "I'm an american and I have the right of free speech and blablabla", idiots.

I am seriouslly considering wiping out people like Omega_Paladin's thread count because of poor forum etiquette and spamming.

The three word story would be the best thread to use as an example, DivineRight.

Its one thing to spam the Three Word Story or the Random Discussion thread. And the really silly polls are fair game. But for the threads that are actually about something (like Picture Thread) to be taken over not once, but twice by complete spamming trash is rediculous.

yeah the double hijacking of the picture threads was a new low I did not think these forums could reach.

and then they went after our beautiful Diplomacy thread

Yeah this is getting out of hand...

Sorry for my one word reply but jeff didn't really ask for in depth he just asked if it bugged the hell out of us.
Well there isn't much to do to stop spammers/flamers other than ban their Forum account thats about all we can do but that doesn't cut it because then the spammers will just make a new account as soon as the discover their old one has been deleted...

I'm not defending anyone here but there is some people here that take the forums too seriously and there are those that take them not seriously enough. I mean everyone is subject to spamming and everyone also spams. I don't think it's gotten to a point where action should be taken to prevent it and i don't think targetting individulas is going to help either. My suggestion is that you simply issue a sticky that states when people start a thread about TAO defer from spamming that but other threads spamming is accepted at an appropriate level.

For instance Goldbergs Creation vs Evolution thread. I had no trouble with people spamming that because it had nothing to do with TAO at all. But when someone is talking seriously about TAO i think then and only then should it been serverely regulated.

You might say well the forums are all meant to be about TAO. Good then there should theoretically be no spammers. But the fact is TAO is now a community and a community in which i am sure enjoy witty humour. A community cannot talk about one game forever.

I think that a lot of people don't realize that the general discussion forum is basically a spam forum.... spamming and flaming is the norm rather than the exception to the posts here
