Now, I know this may sound crazy, but there are people out there who value their stats. This prevents them from engaging in interesting things, such as 5 units games and other games with certian alterations. It also discourages them from playing people with a rating lower than theirs. The option for unrated games would solve all of these problems, and they would allow a way for newbies to play a few games without going into low ratings in order to get the hang of things.

This could be accomplished in a few ways.
1. an option to turn rated games on and off on a personal basis. if a person with rating on plays another with rating on, the game will be rated. if a person with rating off plays one with rating on, it will be rated. if a person with rating off plays a person with rating off, it will be unrated

2. specified unrated floors

3. when a person with rating off places their avatar on an arena, the color of the arena will change to signify that game will be unrated

4. there could be a clan called Unrated, which anyone would be able to join at any time, without invite (this is the least convenient for players, but probably the easiest to make)

5. there could be an in-game switch. if each player presses theirs, the game is unrated

Drops:

Whether drops should apply in rated games isnt something I thought through. Either way is fine with me, if there are unrated games at all :)

clan matches are unrated matches :P if they want to do that sort of thing and not have it count, join a clan together.

but that makes an unrated tourney impossible to pull off.

ps - bring ein back :(

inner clan tournies ;) they're all the rage. And I like Spike, this is his death scene! u mean to tell me you'd rather hav a cute, cuddly, chubby little dog (granted that ein is the cutest cartoon dog ever) instead of this?!

so megabyte, you think it's a good idea for the only possible unrated tourneys to be held within clans?

ps - the animation for spike looks choppy. ein looked much better. the way spike is drawn, it doesnt seem to fit into a forum background.

I think since there is a limited application and purposes of clans at this time in TAO, its a good thing to keep unrated matches to clan only. Either that or else make it so that during certain times (official TAO tourney's and whatnot) DR or another admin can make it so that ALL matches are not for pts in a server. That'd make tournies run a bit smoother I think.

and by demand of abyaly ;)....its not Ein..I'm still trying to find an alternate ppl like as well. Unfortunately, I havn't made an animated one for Vicious yet.

I think it is a good idea. I remember when it was possible to go anonymous. :( Those were the days.

the incentive to join a clan isnt to play unrated games. it's to be part of a community

the Vicious avatar is good. ein worthy. you could even leave it unanimated :D

well first i hate having to wait for clan members to come on. and when they do they might not feel like playing me.

the noob thing. could be likr you check a box if you want your first 5 games to be unrated. then it shows the button is on to other players.

the unrated games whenever you want could be a gold bonus. another reason to pay money for the game

I like that cuathon..nice additional gold perk...

but there is the incentive to join clans for sparring and practice purposes abyaly. Its the original reason I joined mine, if not the lasting one. It takes time to intergrate into a clan community, but the practice and sparring thing is an immediate benefit.

Not having clan members on who want to play u is more of a clan's personal problem though (i.e. get more ppl). Its not really a downside to the sparring thing in general.

Well, good or bad, I doubt this will be implemented any time soon......

Personally I like the idea of unrated options. It takes away the point whoring aspect people accuse others of. I myself play against any and all, including those who I get 0 points for when I win, and occasionally lose a bunch for losing.

It would be cool if this would happen because you could battle new players to the game and help them out without them losing some stats.:)
