Very few forms do not have any knights all. Most greys have at least one. Why is this? I will endevour to explain. (The knight can even work well in a pyro rush.) Its short recovery time is very important.

Its is very durable. taking up to 66 dmage. With its great durability and nice attack it is a shoe-in in most formations.

It is able to kill any caster in 2 hits even with healing. It can kill chanties, scouts, and beast riders in 2 hits, 3 with a heal. It kills a knight in 4 hits with a heal and 3 without. it has the 5th highest attack in the game after LWs Dragons, Dsm and powered Pyro, and witches.

It can take out almost any unit in the game one on one. Drawing with the BW and the LW. It is really what you do against another knight. It beats every other units almost every time.

It does have faults however. It has very slow movement as melee units go and is one of the only blockable units that can only hit 1 other unit. The other unit is the scout but is range makes up for that. It is also the only melee unit that can not start from the exact fron and get a back hit.

The knight works very well for a grey chanty user. It is great against mages and can block units from reaching you chanty. It does great against paralyed units because it doesnt have a chance of hitting the chanty or other friendly units.

A knight is also good for a rush. Heavy quick damage and it can really take some hits.

In a pyro rush its good for cleaning up. All the vulnerable support units and casters which can mess it up are gone. once the cleric dies with a dragon a knigth can be very effective. For greys like me this applies to witch nuking.

It works well defensively too. The best thing to do with the knights is ambush and block holes to let weaker units hide behind them. witch through knight cna be a great supirse to your opponents as well. It has ocassionally been used on me and i have learned its value.

since i am not gold i have not speculated too much on gold units and strategies.

Knights are pretty usefull units, but I have a grudge against them. It takes ages to kill an enemy knight. IT'S SO ANNOYING!!

I could sure use a Md Tank! *looks at own banner*

I always use at least one Knight in my forms. They are simply indispensable in end-game tactics.

Yes, but if it's just the chanty left, and just the knight, and they're nowhere near each other, it's a draw game. The knight can just run forever.

thats true, as the little unit description says in the HUMAN UNITS section, the knight is the most versatile of all units

Concerning golds:

Many golds don't use knights, others do. Golds have more opportunity not to use one, it just means that that person has to spend a little more effort beating knights, because any grays they face will probably have knights.

Any gray should be playing with all 3 knights, and if you're not, you will see a significant decrease in performance (unless you happened to get like 6 witch drops or something, which is almost unheard of for a gray).

The only things that can stop a knight charge: paralysers, often backed up by a furgon if you're gold. Furgons shut down knights. I have no knights in my setup, because my own furgon makes them useless. Oh, and a LW/ dragon combo is pretty nasty as well, but that takes a lot of recovery afterwards allowing your other units to move in.

Knights are great for not having recovery when only moving, but when you are gold, you have 2 scouts and often a dragon to move up, so you don't have to worry about the one recovery in between moves. Only if you are a long way away from each other and need a quick kill in the endgame does it become more useful. Knights are very much an endgame unit in my book, like rooks in chess.
