This post is for n00bs and veterans, Golds and Greys. It is a basic guide to how different types of formation do against other variations of formations.

For now, let us use three common strategies:

Rock: Turtle
Paper: Mage Bomb
Scissors: Flanking

As you can see, a basic variation of a one-sided Turtle will probably be defeated by a basic variation of a Mage Bomb, due to the overwhelming area of effect of high-damage attacks.

A basic Flanking strategy will, therefore, beat a Mage Bomb, due to Spellcasters's low HP and questionable blocking.

Due to the logic followed, a basic Turtle will probably defeat a Flanking setup, due to the Turtle ability to outlast the opposing forces and bring the units to the area of "no escape", so to speak.

Advanced Rock, Paper, and Scissors

Let us move on to more advanced strategies and how they fair against each other.

Rock: Enchantress/Frost Golem/Barrier Ward Freeze Box
Paper: Knight Wall (Offensive/Defensive)
Scissors: Knight Rush

Following the logic of Rock, Paper, Scissors, one would conclude that a Freeze Box variant would defeat a typical Knight Rush, allowing your opponents Rush to break through, and then freezing the majority of your opponent's offensive units.

A Knight Wall (Offensive, not a Freeze Box) would beat a Frost Box, due to the Wall protecting units that could move in and remove the Paralysis threat. After the main focus of that variation is taken care of, you could easily finish off your opponent.

A typical Knight Rush would, logically, defeat a defensive Knight Wall, due to the offensive threat of the Rush. If the Rush was accompanied with Dark Magic Withces and/or Pyromancers, the Wall would be an easy target for the power and area of effect of the spellcasters.

So concludes the Rock, Paper, Scissors of TAO. If you have any additions, please add them here.

Isn't this why you make adaptable formations? Thus meaning you change your formation to suit the best attack style to beat your opponents Rock, Paper or Scissors.

And plus, Good ol trusty rock. Nothing beats rock.

Most people don't play "pure" formations anyway. You dont see many straight up mage bombs, nor do you see so many pure turtles. I run what I think of a snapping turtle where I do have a tight formation with a stony, but I can move to the attack very quickly if I want to. That said, it most resembles a turtle, but I rarely lose to mage bombs, while I have lots of problems with flanking believe it or not.

Heavy knight formations are rare, so I dont see why two out of the three options in the second set are knight orientated. Most people have 1, maybe 2 knights, and use them as late game pieces rather than center to strategy pieces.

You did NOT just make a post that isn't edited and only states that you are double posting by accident!

That is..... a new low.... congratulations?

Immediate edit.

Yep, if you double post (click submit twice real fast) and edit immediately it wont say that you edited it. I suggest you try it out. If this is browser dependent, I'm using Opera.

I didnt see the delete button. Not used to having one since I dont use these forums very much.

And in the future please have a clue of what you are talking about before you insult people.
