This is just food for thought. I don't want any pro-Ach radicals coming in and telling me their real truth to who Ach was.

It's no secret Ach is/was very popular on the forums. I mean i started thinking about this when i see a few people with Ach's banners with their own in their sig. And this lastest episode has drummed up a lot of support for Ach. My question to ponder is why was Ach so dearly loved?

I mean i don't have the experience and haven't been the forums for very long but it seemed to me Ach disrespected authority and flamed and slandered everyone as much as possible humourous or not. I'm not saying that he wasn't more loveable than i saw but was it the n00b beatings and flamings that gave him this support and love from the community. Would he be as loved if he didn't insult as prominately as he did?

You're right. Maybe you didn't see the point of my post. He made DR angry, and DR threatened to ban him. By all rights, DR should have b anned him, but for some reason, Achilles got away with everything.

there is a group of friends on this forum that get along very well...and they do so because each friend brings a personality to the table that no one else does.

take the teenage mutant ninja turtles for example...Achilles would have been Raphael...that was just his personality!

all i am saying is achilles brought something to the table that no one else does...

Yeah, I think that the whole banner and "tributes" to Ach is stupid. He didn't get banned, not even from the game, yet people are acknowledging him. I am saying right now, don't treat him like a king and then get mad when he acts like one because that is what's going to happen.

Ach wasn't that well liked. Check the favorite poster thread and a couple of others. People like him, but not significantly more than a bunch of other people.

That said, Ach's posts were funny, well written, and appeared often inside the forum. So Ach got to know a whole bunch of other people with funny and well written posts. Ach was also a constant presence in the game for a period of time. He therefore became a full member of the inner circle, which is why I said at the time he would never be permanantly banned and why he will never be permanantly banned.

Ach's real popularity didn't come until he got temporarily banned. Which is entirely predictable-the martyr syndrome. When you have a group of people who think they are entitled to something, and one gets killed for demanding their entitlement, the rest of the group will rise up in oposition to the killer, feeling their own rights being violated. The martyr becomes an icon of resistance against the "oppressive" system, regardless of the actual facts behind the person and his death.

To tell you the truth, I have no fucken idea why I'm so damn popular. I don't mean to be unmodest, but I'm in a shitload of sigs.

I insult everything that moves, n00b or vet. I oppose mods/administrators with the utmost arrogance. I have no respect for anyone. I don't abide by any of the rules. I'd also like to know why I'm liked so much?

And Kalamady was right. I did/do get away with everything. And not just in TAO, in real life as well. It was part of one of my custom user texts. Last year, I got six F's and a D on my final report card, their was some mistake in the school system and I was promoted. (Shhh!!) My friend Andrew, who works his ass off in school says "Everything comes so easy to you, you just cruise right through life, don't you Mike?" and I replied with "No, cruising through life would be when I do things, they come easy. Problem is, I don't do things. I fact, I don't do anything. So it's more like life is my bitch." It's just somthing about me, people seem to "look the other way" when I do things.

I mean, I'm happy that you guys like me, but considering the type of person I am, and how much you like me, well... I'd like to know why.

Most people like Ach because he is funny, I changed my sig because I lost the french quote I had in there...also because everyone else did it. Ach was banned from the game wasn't he? When I logged on to his gold account, Snarr happened to be on and asked "What are you doing here?" and when I answered "It's Serge, not Ach," he said okay, and a few days later the Amaroth account was deleted. Which sucks, I enjoy being a freeloader...

Ach is one of the younger members (ok so he's younger than me... and many of you are so i put him in that ctaegory)....and he has some of the hilarious youthfulness that is fun to laugh at and with

but Ach also has respect for things that are really important

I'd like to say this thread might just win the most stupid thread ever written. A thread pointing at a member and crying "why is he so popular and I'm not?" It sounds a lot like it. Get over it. Are you trying to insult Ach or just be an idiot? Ach is a great guy to talk to... he's funny, pretty smart (which is a lot compared to some of you out there) and he does care about a lot of things that are important. Plus, downright disrespect and joking around are two different things. I admit the last big DR speal he gave was downright respect but most of the time he's just joking around and he has a good sense of humor. That's about as many reasons as you need. Some threads really make me sick and this is definitly one of them.

i've often wondered the same thing about ach, i dont dislike him, but he is far from my favorite person on here, i've seen him be respectful, but its rare, he seems to enjoy (and admits to doing it all the time) dis-respecting anyone and everyone in authority


so why was he so popular? i understand liking a person because they were funny, i didnt find his brand of humor THAT amusing, but u did, so u liked him, *shrugs* okay, so we have a difference of opinion... just because of that doesnt mean i wanna kno "why is he so popular and i'm not?!" I beg to differ. I think that more people have seen and shared more bands as a result of that thread. I love to see what other people are listening to. It encourages me to look for new bands and to listen to something that I forgot that I had.

If you had read it, you'd see some cool conversations in there. :)

Asking why everyone likes Ach so much is like asking why everyone likes O_P or APZ so much. He brings spontaneous random humor to the forum. Have you seen his new CUT? It's also the fact that he realizes that somethings aren't really that important. If he gets banned from these forums, it's really no big deal to him. If want's to talk to somebody from this forum after he is banned, he can talk to him through another medium.

Anyway's, why is ach loved, because he's the cool guy! Who else can find a simpler way to put it. He's the guy smoking cig's in a leather jacket by his trans am in high school we all wanted to be of TAO forum. I'm the built guy standing next to him leaning against the truck smoking cig's and waiting for someone to open their mouth so I can kick their ass :D (but still not the cool guy)

Sometimes you guys cross the line and you don't even realize it, perhaps its time you started to pay attention. Since butting heads with some of you, I've been spending a lot of time on my servers getting to know a lot of the more avid players in the TAO community. I have learned that the majority of them can present themselves in respectable manners. I have also learned that not all of them are whiney, arrogant little kids with no disregard for others. Its amazing how many people I can call my friends now.

Being crude and vulgar doesn't make you a superstar if there is no point; it makes you simply crude and vulgar.

I will be enforcing my rules and I will be getting my moderators to crack down on things like this. Last time, this wasn't the issue, but now I am making it an issue.

If I have to turn these forums into a private one, I will. People figure that by getting new ip's they are untouchable, they confuse my leniency with weakness. I gave Achilles a chance because a lot of people requested it; I did my part in "listening to my customers". Now, as customers, you must listen to something that I have to say. Watch your damn mouths and don't waste my resources with your trash. If you want to ruin a good thing, if you want to have this privalege of an amazing forum taken away and made private like the Revelation server then keep encouraging this garbage.

I think this thread was just the straw that broke the camel's back, Duff. I understand what DR's talking about. In the forum there isn't too much cursing that I see, but in the lobby, there is a ****load. (Pun intended) I wish there was a way to boot people when they try to be clever and p ut spa ces in between the letters of the swear. I realize this could boot people on rare occasions if they happened to say something like "I'm a chess expert", but there might be a way to prevent that. Some people in the lobby are also just annoying, even if they aren't swearing. Spammers, cyber-ers, cheaters, and jerks, rule the land of Armageddon at certain hours of the day. I can't see how people can do this stuff and not realize/care that they are being jerks.

Yeah, I wish I was one of those friends you mention (but I tried, and it seems you had no interest due to repeted lack of reply to pm's :() Anyway's, easy down man! Unless I'm mistaken (didn't read one of the pages of the thread) no one was dissing you, and we're all to well aware of why it is achilles wasn't banned. However you must realise the.. immense amount of irratation you create amongst posters by saying that kinda thing (you've said it many times, and there are few who unless provoked or in raged don't represent themselves honoroubly the VAST majority of the time) You come off sounding like one of those kids with no regard for others you seem to dislike so much.

Maybe if there was some support for volunteer lobby mods. I mean if it was just people DR knew and trusted on the forums the would volunteer their time to monitor chat while they are in the lobby. Might have problems with inresponsible people booting cause of a fight or something but yeah. It might work... Definitly worth the suggestions forum... if only i could be bothered :p.

There's also the problem of being booted for saying things like *FiniSH IT off* and the like. Or people will just start saying things like *Bittch*, which still has an obvious meaning, but spaces are irrelevant. If you then changed it so people couldn't put letters OR spaces between the swear word, you'd start being kicked for saying *That'S a sHame, I jusT...* People will always find a way around it, more's the pity.

i... have nothing to say to that, xyx. that was perfect. i have always admired achilles due to his independence. he seemed like a good guy, though he went around harassing noobs all the time. humans like humor. they have always liked humor. it is a fact. you dont see any funny comedians being hated specifically due to their jokes do you?
