I was instructed to make a new thread for a party somewhere besides the original thread.... Sooooo here it is!
Pop open a keg of beer (well, root beer for those of you not yet old enough) (ok, ok, wine for DR), kick your feet up and chat about what ever it is you want...
The beginning of this thread though was 80's cartoons!
Yes, they rocked...
*Goes off quietly into the night singing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles...*

Here was my original post;
80's cartoons were the best.
And you young turds don't know how good you have it.
Now, there's cartoons on 24 hours a day.
When I was growing up, they were only on saturday mornings, we had to wait all stinkin' week to watch cartoons!
Anyway, I'm old, and gonna go watch Visionaries.
Any comments? :)

I remember when Saturday morning, all the channels had cartoons until at least noon.
Now there are a couple of cartoons. And a bunch all other times of the day, and not one large mass on Saturday.
Of coursxe, this is when there were only like 3 tv stations.....
Snork
06-22-2004, 12:19 AM
Yeah, cartoons from like 5 am to noon on all channels.
The rest of the week, nothing.
Now, cartoons 24 hours a day.
Some stations only play cartoons.
The 80's also brought us fine movies like the Goonies and The Breakfast Club.
Who could forget the Truffle Shuffle, one of the greatest, and worst, movie scenes of all time. :D
Ahhh, the 80's..... :)

Actually I'm a huge fan of Cuban Rum, wines are nice but I'm no expert or anything on them. ;)
Snork this is for you:
"Sheathe these feet in the driving gale,
Make switf these legs, over land I sail!"
Witterquick was always my favorite ;)
The Smurfs, The Gummi Bears, Bionic 6, Transformers, The REAL Ghostbusters, Garfield and Friends, GI Joe, Inspector Gadget, Scooby Doo, and of course Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!
I would wake up at 6am again if those shows were still on Saturday morning. :)

We got some work to do now...) and the Smerfs and Tranformers and all of those shows! Don't think they were only 80's!

Scooby Doo traumatized me when I was in Grade 1. I was riding the school bus home (the bus driver's name was Leon, I remember that), when the bus crashed into a station wagon. I bashed my jaw on the bar in front of me, but was otherwise unharmed. We all had to wait in the bus though, and I missed Scooby Doo! :( To this day, I don't know what they played on that episode! We never saw Leon after that either...

Am I the only one who remembers Star Blazers? That cartoon was on every morning and was basically a Sci-Fi soap opera for kids. My brothers and I were hooked. I even remember the theme song....* ahem*
We're off to outer space,
We're leaving mother earth,
To save the human race,
Our Star Blazers!
Oh, and here's another one of my favorites, for all you old timers.

You know what makes me upset? I was watching some Bugs Bunny a while back, the episode where he gets captured by a firing squad and is about to be shot at the very end. They give him one last wish and then... boom.... end of the cartoon! Where was "I Wish I was in Dixie"? I know the blackface dancing isn't politically correct, but so what! It's a cartoon based in a politically incorrect time. Bugs Bunny was major competition against the Nazi's, the Japanese and even the Communist (sorry Communist).
I watched way too many cartoons as a kid... I do know that cartoons were on the local, non-national channels, from about 2:30 to around 5pm... and from 6 am - 8 am (I watched all that time, plus Saturdays).
And Hugh, they have those guys as toys now at Suncoast. They are on discount.

Can someone get the case of Crown that I left out in the car?
Now what's this about my smurfs being communist? You my friend are the communist if you trash my smurfs.
Man cartoons used to be on all morning on Saturday. It was like an event to wake up and check out the shows. Then slowly Saved by the Bell and other crap started creeping in, then all of a sudden...poof. I turn on Saturday morning and I get paid programming. We still get the typical hour or two of wrestling, but no cartoons. Thank heavens for sleeping late.

I downloaded Season 1 of the Snorks off a bit torrent site, but it got stuck right at the end, and won't finish. :(
That show Rocket Robin Hood is back on!
Talk about terrible.
At least half the show is just repeating the fixed scenes where they describe the characters, or fly around in jet packs singing, same scenes all the time.

He's in a plane, transporting the most evil and dangerous criminals in the world to a new jail.
It zooms into the plan to show them. It's all ominous and scarey until it gets to them. Then they're all singing Polly Wolly Doodle. :)
What's with all the new transformer shows?
They've corrupted the show with corperate greed, riding the show for every penny. :(

The problem with Transformers is the 80's Transformer movie. They tried to make it serious, killing off Optimus Prime, which was their downfall. Now they've spent 15 years trying to make it right and getting it all wrong. The glue of the original Transformers cartoons was Bumblebee.

OMG you mention 80's cartoons and the party thread is off in a heartbeat...
*Grabs a tequila shot and downs it* (I'm not really a beer drinker, just give me my hard liquor.)
Just to break in to the testosterone a bit, I have to add "My Little Ponies" to this list... Of course if it was ever on at the same time as ThunderCats it was doomed to not be watched.
Hey, someone said something about 80's toys coming back? Micro Machines!!! Little green army men and the little tan army men wars (man, that was fun)!!! And what about the original K'Nex (grey sticks and blue connector pieces? Man my older brother and I had so much fun building with those... We once had a track built all the way around the room and through the middle for the micro machine cars. Let one go at the top and it would wind and follow the whole track all the way around, end up at the bottom of the stairs somehow or another.) And no one seems to remember "Big Sister's and Big Brother's" (My Big Sister and me!")
And how about:
I don't want to grow up, I'm a Toys' R Us kid
There's a million toys at Toys 'R Us that I can play with!
From bikes, to trains, to video games,
It's the biggest toy store there is! Gee whiz!
I don't want to grow, cuz baby if I did,
I wouldn't be a Toys 'R Us kid!
Medemia
06-22-2004, 11:30 AM
Oh man, don't go to toys. I love 80's toys, but the toys today are the only thing better now then they were then (except GI Joe :( ) For some great toys today, look at Palisades Toys line of Muppets. Those are perhaps the best toys ever produced, although it's based off a late 70's, early 80's television show.

Yeah, we had cool commercials for the toys that are as classic as the old shows.

I am glad I did not have to live through a time when there were only cartoons on Saturdays. What did they waste all the other time on TV for.
Oh dad says to mention that he also loved the NWA and the Killer Bees. He can also remember when Hulk Hogan was just a rookie battling against Jessie Vetura.

One thing I've noticed as time goes on, we care less about the holidays.
Every year, they get more commercial.
I remember when around a holiday, Halloween or Christmas, there were cartoons about the holiday on constantly. It was for the kids. It was a grand event.
Now holidays are mostly just a way to sell products.
Bring back the holiday episodes, play them like crazy, build excitement.
That's what's important to me. :)

The show your thinking of was Lidsville, another drug-induced, puppet-filled nightmare created by the Kroffts. Dr. Shrinker was the show where those 3 teenagers were stuck on that island with the mad scientist and his midget sidekick. The scientist ( Dr. Shrinker ) had a shrinking ray-gun and ran around zapping everything. It's so funny when you look back on those shows as an adult and realize how goddamned stoned those people must have been. Remember the Lost Saucer? It had Gomer f*cking Pyle as as a space robot and that dog/horse called....the Dorse? I mean.......what the f***!?!?

Cowabunga!
(where the %$#& did that come from??) :)
Because of Catra, and then left to me, we've had a couple threads explode over the past couple days, at times moving so fast it's like a slow live chat.
Clap if you love Catra!
*stomp stomp*
Huh? Oops!
*clap clap* :D
Long live us!
Now, back to the party at DR's, and somewhere along the line, the cartoons! :D

Well, if DR is crusty about the idea, we could hold it where I live.
I could host it, set everything up.
I've helped run touraments before, and will be running a tournament for LQ in October, a TAO get together wouldn't be hard to arrange.
Let me know what y'all think. :)
But DR's place would still rock if he doesn't kill me. :D

The middle of everyone wouldn't happen to be Newcastle, Australia would it? Because that would just be so convienient.
As much as i love you all i don't think i would be prepared to fly over to meet you.
Now now no reason to get all teary eyed.
But Snork. I figure the trip could pay for itself. Steal a bus and do a trip around canada and american and at every town you pretend to be one of the city buses and use the money to pay for gas. Genius huh?

That's one of the better ideas I've heard for it.
And I don't mean that in a good way. :D
Although that is an interesting idea. :)
We'll have to see if anybody is interested.

I don't know...we'd have to change the bus paint job or jack a new one each city to match the rest...
We could just go by flux-infuser powered wing-dama-lama-ding-dong ferry.
or would that be to expensive?

Party in the hizzah!
Someone throw me a Smirnoff Ice!!
Shoot, I hope that I didn't completely miss the 80's cartoons talk.
My cartoons were/are the following:
Transformers(the best cartoon ever made...period)
Go-Bots(wannabe Transformers)
Gi-Joe(the show where nobody ever got shot and every plane explosion came with a parachute)
Captain Planet(is that 90's? Who cares. That dude was AWESOME.)
He-Man/She-Ra(Those were important in understanding traditional male/female behavior)
VOLTRON(Cool now as he was then...and I'll form the head.)
TMNT(Great show, but then again, nobody ever got stabbed with Leonardo's sword)
Defenders of the Earth(I BARELY remember this cartoon...so why is the song stuck in my head?)
BIONIC SIX!!!(The first-multi-cultural cartoon family)
Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends(There was no reason for Spider-Man, Firestar, and Iceman to team up so often, but they did every Saturday to my glee
The Hulk(Well, it came after Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends)
JEM(Because the girls are pretty, I always watched the opening of this cartoon. Then I always turned the channel because I didn't want to get caught watching it by my peers.)
M.A.S.K.(A totally cool cartoon that didn't last long enough.
COPS(A bunch of big boy cops with a cool opening. I loved it, but looking back, it probably didn't last long because every hero looked and acted the same.
*pant*
I miss cartoons....:(

Hey snork I am very good at picking locks since that is one of my dads hobbies (locksmith) and moms suggested we do something together. Which to my dismay was whatever he is currently doing whenever she suggests this.
However more to the point now, every town has an ATM with a door in the back that leads to a large cash deposit.
OH YEAH doritos all night long baby and some extra money for gas!

Are we talking video games also?
My dad has an atari with a funny joystick thing and only one button.
HOW THE HE!! do you use the special attacks with only one button?
Me myself use the ps and ps 2

I am sorry but when dad showed me pong and said that it was one of the greatest games of his childhood. I had to leave the room becuase I was about to pass out from trying not to laugh.
And what was that other thing with the little yellow guy that got chased by the ghosts and ate pellets.

My God... Captain Planet was just plain hilarious. Those damn kids never did anything... Example:
Politically Correct Blonde Caucasian: Oh no, toxic waste just spilled into the ocean!
Politically Correct African American: Umm... yeah! Oh no!
Politically Correct Middle-Eastern: I guess we should... umm...
Politically Correct Red Headed Caucasian: Call Captain Planet!
Politically Correct Group: YEAH! That bitch does all the work! Save our Planet!!!
Funny show, though.
EDIT AGAIN: DIM!!! You're disgracing the holy name of PACMAN! You shalt be cast into the flame of ignorance!!!

50's and 60's? My parents were born in the 50's. And if you had any respect, I'd show you a thing or two about how we did it back in my day. In my day, we didn't make fun of people's ages by saying they were born in the 50's. We called them depression kids, 10 millions strong and growing.
I loved how no one ever died in GI Joe though. And M.A.S.K. was good, Matt Tracker being the only character I remember.
But nothing like Bumblebee and Snake Eyes. Heck, even Tomas and Zamot were cool.

I need to finally get all those episodes of 80's cartoons, to have in my video library, to go along with Fart the Movie, and other classics. :)
I download what I can, buy what I can.
But it's just not the same as back then.
I know it is not a cartoon but this is one of the coolest movies my dad has in his collection.
CLOCKWORK ORANGE

Woah! I'm surprised to see the amount of Captain Planet fans!!!
The comments on that cartoon are hilarious...
And let's be honest, the weakest power of all was HEART. In most cartoons where there is a team, there is always someone who has the power to control or turn into animals. Those characters (Aqua-Man, the Wonder Twins in the Justice League, the HEART dude in Captain Planet...those come to mind) were always STUPID.
My boy was of course the African brother. He never got with the Russian chick like I always wanted...but he was SERIOUS. He never spoke much, but you when he spoke....boy...you knew the plot was entering a shift.
Captain Planet on NES? I'm guessing that that's a game that I'm happy I somehow missed! I wonder if it came out for the Genesis?
Still, my all time favorite cartoons are not in the 80's. I still can't get enough of Looney Tunes. Worst than that, Tex Avery and his DROOPY character. I literally fall and cry in laughter over Avery's stuff.
*looks around the party room*
Alright, everyone just got quiet. I think I'll leave this subject alone!!!

I thought he was pretty cool. I think the boys name was peabody but I am not sure, they are some bad quality tapes dad has played them hundreds of times.

Finally! Someone I can relate to!! (Frank Sinatra rules!!) Hmmm, let's see if I can add to that list...
AC/DC!!!! (Cause I'm TNT! Dynamite!)
Early Aerosmith (wait, his late stuff too)
Queen (I want to ride my bicycle, I want to ride my bike, I want to ride my bicycle, I want to ride it well)
Styx! (I got to see them in concert for my 16th b-day... that was AWESOME!! Those guys put on a great show!!)
The REAL Bon Jovi, not the new pretty boy crap
Who does "The Boy's are Back in Town?" I can never remember.. it's on the tip of my tongue though.
Deep Purple (Smoke on the Water ~ Fire in the sky... ah, now that's going to be stuck in my head forever... Not a bad thing though)
The Doors
Fleetwood Mac
B-52's
BANGLES!!! (yeah, I know, someone smack me for mentioning them in the same list as Styx, Aerosmith, Queen, etc)
Ok... this list will take all the space on the server if I keep going... I am going to stop now...

I don't know what you mean?
Hey, you old enough to come to the over 18 party DR suggested?
Al Caponeoni

$3,000 a week intrest rate. After a month, the vig compounds to 5 points a week.
Even though it is only the "a" out of a/s/l, I say bah to age. It is an evil contraption.
18 or no, I would be there. :)
My age is a debatable suggest.
If you want me to be a little more vague, just ask. :)
Snork in your time on the posts sir you have missed the front page of TAO. We don't need to ask DR he is going on leave the first of July so what he doesn't know wont hurt him right. I have already asked Snarr to divert his attention while we set up tents in the back yard.

oooh, sammy... forgot about him.
And the speakers thing.... yeah, I checked them like six times... ran through all the wires too...
Anyway, 'bout this party at DR's house thing.... When would we schedule it for? I am not going to be home for most of July (Woooooooohoooooooo PARTY!!! Damn I am going to be drunk for most of July.... Either drunk or with a really bad hangover) so it would have to be after that sometime. Early August?
Anyway... makes another pitcher of Kamakazies and grabs her three shots....

Well, when he comes back, we're going to plan a big party. A real one. :)
Al, DR wants the first gathering to be over 18. And he's been quite frisky talking to the women lately.
I wonder what he's got planned..... :D

Ehh, I wish it was that simple.
First of all:
1. August is one of the busiest months for shooting TV series.
B. I know your area has a large film industry, but that leads me to 4;
4. I would have to get a local agent for your area before I was even considered for any media project.
F. In conclusion, I wish it was all much simpler! :(
