Name: Shadow Mage
HP: 30
Armor: 0
Power: 16
Range: 4
Block: 30% (Was 40%)
Movement: 3
Wait: 2

Ability-Ranged Attack-Range of four-Unblockable

Innate Ability--Illusion
--While this unit is alive, your opponent sees all of your units as a Shadow Mage, with the real Shadow Mage glowing. This ability is always in effect while the Mage is alive. You still see your units as normal. Your opponent can not see your units' block percentage, HP or any stats while this unit is in play. HP is shown to them as a negative number, until the unit dies. (Say a knight has been hit by two pyros, for 22 damage, your opponent sees the knights HP as -22, when you use a cleric, that number will rise to -10.)

Appearance: The Shadow Mage resembles a Pyromancer but is more sinister looking. It's attack is like black fire.

His stats have been edited slightly. (Okay, so only one stat has been edited)

Original idea for the special ability but it's far too powerfull.

Take the stats down to a little bit worse than a pyro.

Oh I really like it, it would change people's tactics. Great idea Serge!

I might lower the block to 30%. I think the attack, range, and wait should stay the same, since it's only hitting one unit, it's like a weak scout.

Yep. Sounds about right.

I updated his stats a little. I think this unit would be so fun. I got the idea from playing Stratego. Wasn't that a great game?

When your units move / act, I presume they retain the Shadow Mage appearance.. perhaps they take their own appearance when they act?

Perhaps units in melee range of an enemy unit could be seen for what they really are?

Paralysis might suspend the powers of the Shadow Mage?

I take it that the illusion does not veil the units' true facing?

personally, itd be far too powerful. just sit the shadow mage at the back of your army beside the cleric. itd be ingenious, but too powerful

and when u kill an enemy unit it should revert to its original form b4 it dies so u know what u killed.

the concept is good but like walrus said it would be way to power full. In all situations.

Walrus has wisdom.

Now that that topic has been covered, back to the unit design. It's entertaining, interesting, and offers new tactical possibilities; everything that a good unit should be.

If it is too powerful, then it needs to be balanced in some way. Perhaps it requires a focus to veil the friendly units? That way, at game start it is clear who is who.. but keeping track of all that, HPs and all, is quite a challenge. Or perhaps it could have a limited range. Or units unveil as what they are when they act. Perhaps units could show as what they really are whenever the mage is attacked, and therefore, his concentration disrupted.

In any case, the secrecy is a great benefit, but comes at the cost of adding an otherwise weak unit to the roster.

Hmm, it is quite powerful. Maybe I could raise the stats a little bit and make it count as two units? Also, IRT kensai, it always shows a unit's true facing. It doesn't show the unit's block percentage though. If a person pays careful attention to the game it would be no problem seeing what each unit is when it attacks. If it hit's multiple units a couple spaces away, it's a pyro or dsm. If it hit's one unit that is very far away, it's a scout. You get the point.
