View Full Version : Party Poker, anyone?

Well, I was searching around the other day, mulling about what I should be doing at the moment, when I realized that I haven't played poker in awhile.
Now, I'm a huge poker fan, playing it as often as possible (No Limit Texas Hold 'Em usually) and watching the various programs (World Series, Poker Tour, Celebrity Showdown), and I decided to look around for a free poker program.
Well, found one. Party Poker, the g-r-r-reatest online poker resource, evah!
You can play for real money, or for "play money", and I only play. . . well, for "play"!
The site is:
www.partypoker.com
If you are a fan of poker, and want to play for free against other players around the world, check it out.
(By this time you may be saying, yeah yeah this schmuk's just trying to participate in the Refer-a-Friend thing, and this is all to his benefit. Well, you are wrong. You can't use the Refer-a-friend if you play for "play". :D)
So, come and play. I need some more suckers- I mean. . . *coughcough* Good friends to play with!
;)
So come and play, free to register what-not, and add me to your buddy list.
I'm:
AlCaponeoni
Of course.
I highly suggest this to anyone who likes to play poker. (You can play No Limit Hold 'Em, Pot Limit Hold 'Em, Table Limit Hold 'Em, Omaha, Omaha High, Omaha 8 or Above, 7 Card Stud, and some other forms as well.)
Hope to see ya' there,
Al

Yeah i play there from time to time, they have a good setup, better then pokerstars.com (there a slight chance i have PP and PS mixed up, been a while since i've played at either)
I don't understand how to play Poker -.-'

LJ: Hmmm. . . Poker Stars looks nice. Elegant. . . Choose your own image? Nice. . . Hmm. . . Maybe I should check that out as well.
DKR: *convulses and dies*
You need need need need need need need need need need NEED NEED to learn!
:D
It's a great game.
Especially Texas Hold 'Em. That's the Caddillac of Poker.
:)
Why do I need to learn? If I don't learn then I can never gamble at Poker :D

Ehh. . . to predictable. :)
But, it is the smartest gamble.
:D
LJ, I checked out Poker Stars. . . it wasn't as explanitory and seemed too complicated/snobbish. . . weird.
Wasn't as player friendly as Partay Pokay!

i no poker...
tryed to download that a while back...
never worked :(
Al you teach me how to play?
Al Caponeoni
07-17-2004, 03:00 PM
O h y e a h ! ! !
Alright then. I will teach you Pot Limit Texas Hold 'Em, but before I do that, I will give you the ranking of hands.
From LOWEST to HIGHEST:
1 -Worst Hand-: High Card A high card hand means you only have one single card that is worth anything. If I had an Ace, a Two, a Four, a Jack, and a Queen (all of random suits), my hand would be an ACE HIGH hand. This is the worst hand in poker.
2: Pair This is a combination of any two numbered cards. A pair is denominated by a pair of 2's being the lowest, and a pair of Aces being the highest. (Example: 2 Jacks is a pair)
3: Two Pair This is, well, what it sounds like. Two Pairs, such as two 4's and two Queens.
4: Three of a Kind This is as it sounds as well. This is three numerical cards, all of the same likeness. Three Jacks is a Three of a Kind. Also referred to as "trips".
5: Straight This hand is five cards, all in numerical order. An Ace, 2, 3, 4, and 5 is a low straight, and a 10, Jack, Queen, King, and Ace is a High Straight.
6: Flush This hand is five cards, all of the same suite (such as five Hearts, or five Spades).
7: Full House This is a Three of a Kind + a Pair of anything. They do not have to be the same suit, just same numerical value. Three Kings and two 4's is a Full House.
8: Four of a Kind Four of a Kind is four 3's, four Jacks, four Queens, etc. . . Four of any card.
9: Straight Flush Example: 2 of Hearts, 3 of Hearts, 4 of Hearts, 5 of Hearts, 6 of Hearts is a Straight Flush. You must have five cards in numerical order, all of the same suite.
10 -The Best Hand-: Royal Flush This hand can only be of the following cards: 10 of Spades, Jack of Spades, Queen of Spades, King of Spades, and the Ace of Spades. The odds of getting this hand are: 0.0002%
Now, you play Texas Hold 'Em as so.
First, the person to the left of the dealer is given the "button".
The button is a marker indicating who pays what to start the game off. The person to the left of the button pays the "small blind", a set bet (such as $100). The person to the left of the "small blind" has to pay the "big blind" (usually twice as much as the small blind). If you do not pay the Big Blind, you do not recieve your cards.
After that, betting continues from the left of the Big Blind. You can either call the Big Blind, or raise it by twice it's value. (I.E. Saying "I raise to $400")
Then, people must call your bet (put in the same amount), or fold (toss in their cards and not play).
Everyone receives two cards, face down. These are your Pocket Cards.
A betting round ensues.
Then, three cards are laid in the center of the table. This is called the "Flop". These cards can be used by anyone, and are called the Community cards.
A betting round ensues.
The fourth card (4th Street) is layed down.
A betting round ensues.
The fifth card (The River) is layed down.
The final round ensues. After that, you must make the best hand out of at least one of your pocket cards, and the community cards to make the BEST FIVE CARD HAND.
Terms:
Call: You put in the same amount of chips as the person before you, therefore staying in the game.
Raise: You raise the bet with a certain amount of chips (In Pot Limit Hold 'Em, the highest amount is the total of the Pot, or chips already betted).
Check: You do not put any chips in, but remain in the game.
Fold: Toss in your cards. You are out of that game.
WHOOO! Hope that is specific enough!
Your welcome,
Al
Wow Al... i'm impressed... even better I understand O_O;;;

Al, very weird, just 2 days ago I was searching for the same thing. Unluckily though I ended up finding the other one, Pacific Poker (another Holdem runner). I might download that, let me know sometime and I'll give you a run for your money.
-The best 13 year old Hold'em player around
[mad rant]EDIT: Omg Al no no no, that is the worst online poker player I have ever seen. Instantly deleted after playing a couple hands. Pacific Poker is 5x better, with better grapics, gameplay, and easier navigation of the program. So I say, if you are going to play poker, get Pacific Poker which can be found here (www.pacificpoker.com/default.htm?SR=905833).
If you decide to get it and ever want a game, IM me at bigpowwow26.
That is all.[/mad rant]

After my vacation I'll start playing on the first site Al posted. Poker is the *only* proper use of cards. I play Texas Hold 'em, 'cause that's what I play when I go to visit my dad. Which is what I'm doing the second week of my vacation.

I've added every name posted to my buddy list on PartyPoker. I'd definately be into a Tao poker night. With 10 of us in the same room, there is no end to the smack we could talk. Sounds like a good time to me. Let's stay on it.

Edit: Ok yeah i had everything mixed up, pokerstars is the one i like the setup for, lol, not partypoker. What's really nice about pokerstars is you can submit your own picture to use as your avatar there.
But I'm up for a tao poker night at any of the sites, we could even get a Teamspeak cancel going to enhance the smack talk.

Poker is fun. I used toplay. I must say, it's not the same as online poker. Reading your opponent is almost as much fun as robbing them after the game.

omaha high is similar except you get dealt 4 cards at the stop and then you bet and theirs a flop of 3 community cards all can use you bet again they flip a 4th card, bet then a fifth and you use 2 of the 4 cards in your hand plus 3 on the board it's tougher because people have alot of outs

if you play low if you have an ace, two , three, four, six thats the worst possible low hand you can get you would bet and be the person to raise the guys that have good hands
That went over my head...
