    FROSTMANCER (aka ice mage)

    FROSTMANCER

This is a Grey playable UNIT! (look for gold power-up bonus)

These mages are a remote clan of spellcasters who focus their abilities on the element of ice.
They view ice as supperior to fire because it can do much more than fire can, it can kill your enemies, protect and preserve your allies, block paths and it lasts longer.
They have yet to perfect their abilities to the point where they can freeze an enemy like a frost golem, but their aquired talents are not to be less feared.

    FROSTMANCER STATS:

    HP: 30
    POWER: 10 (irreduceable) (+1)
    ARMOR: 0%
    BLOCKING: 30%
    MOVEMENT: 3
    RANGE: 3
    RECOVERY: 3

These mages do not seem to hold an edge over the mighty destructive flame of the pyromancers. But their strength lies in their versatility.

When a frostmancer selects a tile (in attack phase) that tile becomes encapsulated in ice. This ice can serve as a physical barrier so that no unit may occupy that space unless they hit the ice

In the event an opponent is on the tile selected, the frostmancer will encapsulate the opponent in a prison of ice (it looks like a small mountain) for 2 turns. The opponent will take 10 damage on the initial encapsulation and after that -1 damage per turn in the ice. The opponent cannot free itself durring those 2 turns, but another unit may do so without damaging their friendly unit and break the ice.
    >>*note: the ice is so thick an opponent cannot heal his unit*<<
One neat trick the frostmancer has learned is to encapsulate himself in that same shell of ice used to trap enemies, it does not harm him at all, but merely protects and preserves him from harm (lasts 2 turns) or intill ice is shattered.

    * special: the frostmancer gets +1 power for every frost golem on your side so the damage would be for 1 frost (11 damage and -2 everey turn in ice)

So you see this unit is insanely versatile

This unit is under-powered in my opinion. Maybe raise its power.

And in the "Ice Incapsulation" thing if it's hit it shatters correct? Like the blocking ice thing. And also it attacks like pyro I'm guessing(because this unit is so incredibly thought out) so if it does. Why would it encrust only one square?

Thanx for the feedback, i think this unit is balanced because......

#1) it can block a tile of importance.
#2) it encapsulates enemies for 2 turns
#3) durring encapsulation enemy cannot heal himself.
#4) it works like a mild frost golem/berserker/whisp. in the fact it freezes/stuns and damages the opponent.

one tile is enough, because doing 4 squares it too strong, turts would die!

you could freeze 4 units in a turt, then advance with more frostmancers/ mage bomb and then re-encapsulate 4 units and blow the rest out da water with your units!

    one tile is plenty.

perhaps the power could be multiplied by every frostmancer on field? (+1)
that would be kinda the reverse of the pyromancers, as a pyro bomb (dsm included) is killed it gets STRONGER as pyro's are killed off.

If the frostmancers work opposite this way they get weaker as their brethren are kiled off......

maybe you have to have 1 frost golem to create the bond effect and then any additional frostmancer gains (+1) power.

i will re-think the power bonus thing.

This unit ROXOR THE SOXORZ in power!

    Mage bombs would be UBER-POWERFUL

MANCERBOMB would be a new term in tao if this happened.

Think, in tao you are allowed 10 units on field right?

    break it down like this.

    1 DRAGON TYRANT
    1 DSM
    2 PYROMANCERS
    2 FROSTMANCERS
    3 FROST GOLEMS
(thats 10 units and an uberpowerful setup!)

DSM's do 24 damage here........right off the bat.
    FROSTMANCERS do 21 power (13+(4)(4) = 21 and frezze

    TOO DEADLY INDEED!

maybe i need to reduce frostmancers range to 3 that way it's not to broken.

I would also make it do 2 damage a turn while it's encapsulated.

I was just thinking, you could even "save" a unit that you don't want to get hit by "ENCAPSULATING IT"

think, you have a tyrant facing a tyrant, you move your tyrant in on a recovering tyrant and shoot it down for 23 damage, you notice that the opponents tyrant is now going to be free to hit your tyrant next turn, your frostmancer is out of range to freeze the enemies tyrant BUT INSTEAD YOU FREEZE YOUR OWN!

he is safe in the ice from the enemies tyrant fireball! he only suffers 12 damage instead of 23!

same with the DMW you could "encapsulate" it to protect it from tyrant 1 hit kills!

as long as your unit is above 12 health ( and your frostmancer is not boosted) your units will only suffer 12 dmg.

also good at protecting a cleric, you could encapsulate him for 2 turns so that a scout can't snipe him for 18 dmg....

lesser of 2 evils kinda thing.

And this unit WOULD BE AVAILABLE TO GREYS!

heh but the power boost only works when there is a frost golem on field so the greys get only a weaker version of the frostmancer.
    PEACE!

    Mage bombs are for noobs.

But nice unit. Not too creative, but a good blend of freezing + damage.

Nothing is true. Everything is permitted.

You're thinking Rev or Legends. And no one would be that stupid to use a set like that. Also, this thing wouldn't be a drop freezing two units one after another is insane. It's an ok idea, just you need to lay off the crack.

This may well be the most creative unit I've seen in a LONG time. Well done.

Strategic possibilities I see in this:

    GREY FORMS
    - With a barrier ward, the Frostmancer is uber. Charge the enemy's frontline and protect yourself, then use the barrier ward to maintain cover until the ice wears off. Then freeze the enemy cleric! You can leave the guy there until freezing the cleric (or some other weak unit) is possible.

Scout rushes will no longer be so problematic. You can freeze any scout that's foolish enough to attempt a flank, maybe even witch-burn it first. Same with assassin raids.

    GOLD FORMS
In a turt, I foresee a great advantage, even lifesaving, in the idea of freezing an incoming Mud Golem. I mean, this is not a focus unit! Wait until the poor golem has its turn back, then freeze it for two more. It may even be possible to frosty the poor thing right before it thaws.

In free forms and antis, I can see this working wonders alongside a frost golem. Dragon rushes turn into dragon popsicles. Scouts can't save the day either, not easily. And freezing front-line units is always a good delaying tactic too. If the cleric's open to a dragon rush, maybe even block the cleric's side and freeze your frostmancer? That would be insane. The dragon couldn't even hurt the frostmancer, since each melting of the ice would cause at least a 2-turn wait.

If anything, I'd say REDUCE the unit's power. Its freezing capability is just too powerful when coupled with barrier wards or frost golems, IMO. Range should be 3, movement should be 3, recovery should actually also be 3 to prevent infinite self-re-freezings unless he stays where he is.

It's not really that huge a thing, but at least consider the ramifications of making this a focus unit. It wouldn't make a difference where self-freezing is concerned, but it would cause a little bit of a headache when freezing other units in certain situations... and of course the ice's duration should still be 2 turns.

On that note, when will the ice melt? Two of the freezing player's turns, or two of the frozen player's turns? Should the enemy be allowed one turn to run, or should the frostmancer be allowed to re-freeze him indefinitely? The latter would make endgames with a frostmancer VERY one-sided! And when would it melt when a friendly unit gets frozen?

About this being a grey unit... as it's rather strong, perhaps it might not come with each new grey accout - maybe you should have to win one?

Lastly, I don't really care for the name. It seems an awkward imitation of "Pyromancer," but I can't think of a better name.
Ideas I've had for new units for TAO:
Warlock - tricky but effective at stacking damage
    Lifecrystal - it's a Doppelganger Ward!
Doppelganger - shapeshifts into any unit, with certain limitations
Illithid - barrier breaker with a decent telekinetic attack

You are the bomb, thanks for thinking out my unit even more than i could, and as you pointed out there are some serious ramifications when this unit is paired with a frost, perhaps i should get ridd of the + power bonus ability?

or get ridd of the inability of the opponent to heal through the ice?
if the opponent could heal through the ice it may make it more balaced.

But you have come up with great scenarios and have thought this through well.

On that note, when will the ice melt? Two of the freezing player's turns, or two of the frozen player's turns? Should the enemy be allowed one turn to run, or should the frostmancer be allowed to re-freeze him indefinitely?
I believe the opponent should be given the upper hand in this scenario so that he can run away, OR approach the frostmancer to attempt an attack.

Either way this unit is still very attractive.
