Offering a draw
Ok, I just finished a game against a gold on the Banff server (where I am a grey). After defeating some greys that challenged me on Armageddon, I thought I'd see what it is like from their perspective again.
He had 2 scouts, a dragon, 3 knights, a cleric, a lit ward and 2 witches. After a long hard battle, it was down to me with a scout, pyro, lit ward, and cleric. My opponent (who will remain nameless) had a scout by his lit ward and his cleric. After exchanging fire, I had his scout down to where my pyro could finish him off on my next turn. Now there were many key blocks in this game on both sides...in the end, I felt that the game had been determined by blocking. I was probably a bit lucky on the blocking front, and my opponent missed a couple of key blocks at the end resulting in the death of his dragon (though they were both side blocks). Being a good sport, I offered a draw. It was just a new grey account I had made, and I could care less about the record...but I know golds generally care quite a bit. So, I passed...he passed...I passed... He shot and killed my pyro. Now I went on to win the game anyways. He never acknowledged playing for a draw, but it was clear I had the game won...my pyro was ready to go and his scout was at 5 health. What is the proper etiquette here? Is it bad form to offer a draw on my part? It just seems to me the proper thing to do is either accept the draw, or concede the game gracefully. All in all it was a great game, very close, and a lot of fun (if a bit nerve-wracking). The ending just left a bad taste in my mouth. He never agreed to the draw, true, and I suppose I can't fault him for playing to win. And now I'm just rambling a bit, so I'll stop. Just one last note: golds, play as a grey once in a while. It's interesting playing again without 2 scouts, golems, and the dragon. And, it's nice to prove, at least to yourself, that greys do have a chance against golds if they play their cards right

Grays can beat golds. I played a gold member once packing a dragon and a mud golem, and I won anyway. I think one bad move early on put him in a disadvantageous position.
On the other hand, I just played a guy (screen name Badass) with two witches, and got my ass kicked because he did a good job of surrounding his cleric. |

Heh, I've already played as a grey and beat a couple golds, I'm happy with that.
o0 I only draw if the game results in a draw by the system rules o0 I don't intentionally 'draw'

I have never given a draw. Unless they truly cannot continue the fight it can end only so if nither on is willing to risk loss for victory.
I have taken three, and all were one unit left and it aint comin out or gone after. |

That was nice to give it to newb, but I agree that a dual (with the exception of if you come anywhere close you will lose) should be fought to an eventual end.

Question...
How do you offer a draw? Never taken the time to think about it and I don't see any terribly obvious answer.

the rule is: if both players consequtively pass 6 times (3 times each) the game is an automatic draw.
So, the only way to give a draw is for both players to agree to pass 3 times. This should never be given to a person who doesn't look trustworthy, because they may just have you pass then get an extra turn advantage. |

I gave a draw to a gray once. I joined his game but he didn't feel like playing a gold. He politely asked for a draw, but I ended up convincing him to play as much as he can - I was going to win anyway, but I gave him the draw when he was down to his cleric and assassin (and I my ward/3 knights/scout/cleric/golem/dragon).

i have noticed some gold members seem to think they are invincible with all their special units and extra units and don't really know how to play and fall easily into traps.
but the gold members who do know how to play, generally wipe the floor with greys which makes it increadable unfun unless they get very unlucky. and don't get me started on the ones with double clerics

Hey
personaly im a gray and i dont intend on going gold (i dont like to pay for online games) and i think that golds sould not be able to fight grays mostly because golds have most the time won before the game begins with the unit advantage and grays dont stand a chance not that grays always lose to golds but i think theres to much of an advantage for golds ok ill shut up now (sorry bout the spelling errors)
