Unit Drop Question

Ok im confused....how do i get new units i have heard all sorts of things like only gold members can get it and all users can get it and then i've heard things about you having to win a battle at just the right time....can someone explain all about unit drops please? i beg u because everyone i ask in the chat says something different.

Here it is, plain and simple.

Golds get units very often just for being gold. They get the new unit and 'test' them out.

OR

everyone has the chance for a unit drop. At a random time during a game, a message will appear and say this.
**The winner of this game will receive X unit. ** And bam, the winner of that game will receive that unit immediately following the game.

From what i've heard is that it's random, and averages every 30 hours. BUT people here on the forum have somewhere posted when they have experienced a drop. BUT REMEMBER, you must be in a game to win the unit, not in a lobby, and you gotta win that game.
