Ward usage
I've noticed that not very many people are using them, I haven't learned how to incorporate them effectively into my own army either.
I need some help with the wards please! |

I use the Barrier Ward to protect my Cleric. I keep him in a far back corner with the Barrier Ward in front of him.

I use the Lightning Ward dead center also, its good to blast off mages that get too close.
I tend to flank to one side and leave one side open. Guys take the long walk around and I peg them off as they walk. |

My Lightning ward sits up front too... it usually ends up in a firing war with enemy lightning wards nowadays though. Front center is a good place to cover retreats and seperate the board.
My Barrier ward sits in teh back off to a side... it usually ends up covering my spellcasters, though my assasin has benefitted from it as well. Barriers are good for burrowing units into enemy territory. once the scout is down, it's hard for the enemy to knock down the defense. I've burrowed my assasin a few times and, even better, my witch a few times. Witch burrowing allows for good kamikaze attacks on the cleric =)

Another tactic I've seen used is to bunch up all of your pieces in the back, with the lightning ward and barrier ward around the front of them (still back). Keep your knights and cleric behind them, and your distance units available to move. The point is to draw the enemy to you instead of going on the offensive. When they get close to the ward, blow em away.. and use your distance units to plink them from afar... and keep moving them back towards your ward. Keeps you away from THEIR wards, and, ends up drawing them, one or two units at a time, over to your side where you seperate them and finish them off.

Things should get interesting as all the new Gold accounts opted for Scouts... hence double long range shots on Clerics.

It makes lightning ward tactics less effective too... aro and i went toe to toe fighting, but his formation was designed for sniping while mine was a regular "take on any formation" design... so i lost at the very end. my lightning ward was next to useless all game...

When I had the barrier ward... everytime I wanted to use it I used the cleric instead.... or when I had no other options..
so I kicked it out and put my assasin back in.. and I like her better.. much better |

to fire it off, you just have to select it while in attack mode
anyways, i use my barrier instead of one of my knights... it's saved my life a lot... but im wondering if the trade off is worth it... those knights are like the teutonic knights from Age of empires... TOUGH.

Why do wards have to be front and center? People will begin to expect that soon...
Instead, try overloading to one side. Usually, people will spread out their units evenly across the board, and being able to penetrate deeply to the left or right quickly could give you an edge as they have to begin the game retreating to the other side. Advice: Don't be too predictable. |

Excerpt: Wards
I just wrote something about wards in the Barrier Focus thread, here's the relevant excerpt:
"Personally, I think wards are a waste of time. They are an automatic loss late game as units are too spread out for the ward to affect anything. Also, I find it easy to adapt to ward strategies as enemy units usually cluster around their "protective" ward, thereby limiting their flexiblity, allowing me to outflank them or do plenty of damage with a sacrificial witch or pyro. Finally, Lightning Wards take four turns to recharge, the second longest in the game, beaten only to a moving, healing Cleric. Despite their huge damage, it is simply not worth the wait for such an inflexible unit. And barrier wards can be hit (by anything, i think) while protecting someone, thereby taking down the barrier. But I prefer a more flexible style of play anyways. "As well, barrier wards can't protect crippled knights or assassins, as it mostly works as a stall-tactic/self-paralyze: you can't hit them until you move, they can't hit you until they hit the ward. Basically pointless. Also, the Lightning Ward only hits one target every FOUR turns, whereas the Pyromancer can hit up to five (normally two) every three turns and the Dark Witch up to four every three turns. Do the math, the damage potential (even for the pyromancer) is far greater and they are far more flexible in the long run. I think I've beaten heavy ward users every time (although I may have played only two, I'm new here ) and every time I face a ward user I always seem to gain the upper hand. But that's just my opinon. I thought that this post needed a little negative wardness.

All on one side
I stuff all my units on one side, my lightning ward about 3 spaces from the side. There is no reason to spread out your units across the map. Sure the Witch or the pyro can do some damage early on, but that just brings them to me. They move forward and i will either zap em or walk my knights out there and hack their asses to pieces. It is especially effective against the newb formations
but it is also effective against other formations. Often i find my lightning ward just out of range of theirs. I normallly kamakazie my knights into their back field, destroy the majority of their supporting units with one unit. This also puts them on the defensive for the beggining of the game, allowing me to control how i take them out. I am new to the game but i think my record show i have a clue about what im doin.27-0-5 the majority of those games were finished, But a few felt inclined to surrender when i destroyed all their supporting units and i stilled had the majority of mine and a knight or two. i use the barrier ward in the center forward position to mostly block important units in the beggining of the game, often it is within range of the lightning ward but in those cases i put the barrier on itself and wait till i have a chance to destroy the lightning ward. Also puttin a temptin target behind your lightning ward usually can draw their witch within range of it. I use my witch for this task. - Lone Wolf |

I like lightning ward because it makes people scared and then they waste turns and do stupid things. For example, in one game they lightninged my lightning ward whenever they could, I didn't use it at all, but used my scout to kill their cleric. Game over.
