Thumbs down

I hate to say it, but I think this is the worst unit in the game.
I tried it out, and won't be using it again.
I don't want to play against it either.

All it did was tie up the middle of the board, so neither of us could do anything, it dragged the game out without adding much. Yeah, your guys can hide to recover. But now they're blocked in too. You have to destroy the bushes to get through. And who destroyes the last bush, and gives an oppening to the opponent?

I'm sure some people will like it. But I sure didn't.

well... you can still shoot through the bushes with your scout if you know how to... (I do, I do), so you could use that as part of your strategy...

I found the perfect set-up using the furgon. Unless you find a good formation with him,he won't be good. Also, scout LOS helps to shoot through those pesky marijuana-looking plants the Furgon grows.

Personally i love the furgon. It changes the entire game. It's an effective scout counter (something that was lacking) and gives magi units and teleport units increased value.

Games with two people using furgons can begin to drag. I even drew my last game because me and the other guy had been going at it for an hour, and only 4 units were dead, but overall i think the furgon changes the game for the better.

I just think most games with them are going to be drawn out, stalling affairs.
To me, thats terrible.
I want to be able to attack, get attacked, whatever.

It just slows things down far too much to have most of the board blocked off with a big honkin' forest.

But I recognize some people don't mind a slowed down, hacking through the forest type game.
They'll like the furgon.

For somebody like me that likes to be able to move and attack, it's just annoying.
But I can see the other side.

I totally agree with snork, al; this unit is is a delay tactic, it draws out games to an uneccessary point and removes (in my opinion) a lot of strategy. I know it removes more strategy then it add's. The only thing it really does is makes the mages usefull again (oh yay, mages)

I don't wanna totally bash on this guy, as the admin of this game probably worked pretty hard on it. But I think that guy did more damage to gameplay then it did good. And of course everyone's gonna use it as people like delay tactics hiding behind things. It sounds like a cowards weapon to me. Why do I say so, beacuase it makes it so direct battle no longer a problem for those who can't strategize. And even an idiot can use this thing half assed effectively enough to annoy you or even win.

Once again, I wish there was something good I could say about this unit, but I'm gonna add it to my list of crappy new units, and let it sit on the off field.

EDIT- sigh, I am saddened by what this thing has done to gameplay.

well... I think there are things that this unit could do that could make it offensive... the whole "trapping a unit in bushes" thing is appealing...

and I think it could be used with the enchantress for extra protection... this is definately a majorly defensive unit... but I don't know if it's completely worthless because 1. I don't have one, and 2. I can't test it to see it's effectiveness.

bills played me with it, and he used it well for what he was doing. I could have killed it, but wanted to see what he was up to, he ensnared all my guys with bushes.
Now, if that could be done while keeping it safe from harm, do what he did, it might be ok. He tied up my units and came in to attack.

But that's not how other players have been using it.

Another good point about them is they make mud golems useful. Then again, I use a mud golem anyway because they're cool.

Furgon does have good points, but I still don't like it in general.

I don't like the Furgon...but it is important.

You see, in the higher levels of gameplay, the whole fight revolves around who can kill the other's scouts first...because scouts are amazingly powerful. If you lose your scouts, and your enemy still has his, then you'll lose 90% of the time against anybody worth his rating.

The Furgon is a great way to blunt the archer's power...the archer's were just too much until now.

As Rescorlian said, now spellcasters are a bit more important, which is good. You see, a witch can cut through those brushes like crazy.

Unfortunately, they DO make the average game somewhat longer, leading to an increased chance of being disconnected.(I played someone...I won't say his name...yesterday who freakin' put a forest on the screen. By the time I actually go through that forest and got the advantage, I lost connection for the first time ever with my ADSL, giving him the win...I was...ANGRY).

But both of our scouts were reduced in power, making them as effective as other units in their own way, which I feel is fair.

However, if the consensus is to get rid of the furgon, then also cut down the scout's range of attack by one square.

How do you not like the furgon. Its the one of the best units ever made. Its hilarious just watching it move and create shrubs.

I have to completely disagree with you on that one resc. It might be a stall tactic for some....but for me it just adds another way that I can strategize against my opponents.

Using the traditional stonie setup...I can set up a nice little wall of shrubs in front of my frostie. Luring the enemy in, freezing them, and then picking them off with my scouts is not a new tactic. It's just that now it's a lot easier to do it. I think it really makes people think a lot more too. for instance, you have to calculate where to move your dragon too so that it can get to the other side of the bushes as quickly as possible. Or, to plan out your scout LOS more carefully. Personally, I think it takes this game from a "who can take out their scouts and bull rush for the win" to a real thinking man's game. But that's just imho.

Oh yea...and btw: FURGONS RULE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MUAHAHAHAH!!!!!....that was me. I did make a forest, the forest of DOOM! That kept you at bay, and distracted you away from your vital units( cleric, stonie, etc ). While both your scouts and 1 of your knights were on one side of the board, I attacked on the other. I had killed your other knight, and was then you froze my dragon . You then got smart and broke through on the other side. I still had my furgon, knight, and was about to take my frostie to back them up. I was also about to start weed wacking, but then you got disconnected. It would have been interesting to play it out, and I think it would have been a totally different game if we weren't straight across from each other. Who knows. It was still anyone's game.
