Share Formations
This is a thread to share your formations and criticize others... we'll all eventually get better
I will also post this on the Gold strat forum when I get Gold. Some people might be reluctant to share formations, fearing they'll lose the advantage, or that their strat will get stolen... to them I say the chances of meeting any one login in combat is tiny [how many logins are there now?] and if your formation can be easily beaten with one small tactic then it isn't a good formation at all; good formations should be resilient, able to counter several different strategies. To make this easier I have devised a notation system similar to that used by chess players. The system notates each unit with 4 digits. Imagine you're in Settings [you are occupying the top or left corner of the map]. Your half of the map has a Central Column [where the Cleric is in the noob formation, where most people put their Lightning Wards]. The map also has Rows [starting with #1 in the front where the Ward usually is, and ending with #5 in the back where the Noob Cleric usually is] Each unit is notated with: 1. A letter identifying it. K=knight P=pyromancer C=cleric S=scout A=assassin E=enchantress W=witch B=barrier ward L=lightning ward and for Gold users M=mud golem F=frost golem T=stone golem 2. What row on the central column it is. Again, starting with 1 at the front and ending with 5 at the back of the field. 3. Whether it's to the right or left of the column This is from your perspective in Settings. Something on the left side of the screen is left. L means left, R means right, C means center, it's on the column. 4.How MANY squares to the right or left it is. Quite straightforward. 0 means it's on the column. ------------------------ It sounds complicated, but it's really not. Here's the Noob formation; it took me about 1 minute to notate. You can create a fake account and login and check it. Good way to learn the system ![]() Noob Formation: C5C0 K3C0 K3L1 K3R1 P4L2 P4R2 E4R3 W4L3 S3R4 A3L4 To place units, you would for example read: A3L4 to mean: 1. Take the Assassin. 2. Put it on the 3rd row back, 4 squares to the left. |

My formation
now if i got this correctly...
My formation on Banff is a type of strong side. everything is on the left. lets see here umm... c5L3 k1C0 k1L3 k1L4 p2L4 w2L2 <- hey i got this down now ![]() s2L1 a2L5 l1L2 b1c0 ya I think that is it. o by the way first reply ![]() This works pretty well against all situations i have faced. Also it has a nice opener against the witch and the assasin in the newb formation, and moving that unit to the right 1 space will allow u to attack the witch and a pyro. Also it draws peoples witches to attack my lightning ward and the witch behind it then i just ZAP their witch and that problem is solved. Depending who i am facing i sometimes also throw away a knight early in the game to kill a lot of supportin units. - Lone Wolf Last edited by Lone Wolf; 11-29-2003 at 03:21 PM. |

Ok, since no one else wants to, I'll share a killer formation I came up with yesterday. Hasn't lost yet.

Or, instead of searching, just go to http://www.floraldream.org. It is a good upload site.

Here's a strategem I've worked a while on, I call it the Stone golem / Lightning Ward defensive formation since basically the stone golem and lightning ward are the units keeping those pesky little buggers away from my cleric.
Whew was hard to get those little sticks from the pyros off the mat from diluting the pic. Anyways, use the left area for some sort of spell caster/ranger and the stone golem or a nearby knight will pause anything trying to get at your lover (the cleric). Up front you can see a vulnerable spot for the enemy pyromancers to hit, but this spot usually doesn't get hit for me since I tend to kamekazi my witch early on in the battle, so only two units are in pyromancer vulnerability. The witch is up front for that kamikaze (sp?). The knights are placed so there is an equal share of brute power on all sides but so that knights can be rushed after the initial showdown to either side of the semicircle to account for the enemy buildup on either side of the board. The 'sink' in the unwarded part of the circle is given rangers so they can get a hit or two on enemies coming to attack from that supposedly weak side. A stone golem is there to to help the archers get through sheilds or to stop a renegade assassin from reaching the good doctor. On the other side, there's a mud golem/knight pair accompanied by a lightning ward for some offensive action that I usually accompany with a retreat to the ward. This formation suits my style of play and is actually pretty flexible from pretty early on in the battle. It is geared for mid-battle domination. The con is that it doesn't allow too much moving around, thus is not as flexible to get the enemy casters in the beginning showdown if the casters are on the northern side of the board (unless they're in lightning ward range, I've had a few fried witch sandwiches with this tactic). The mud golem does nullify this con a little. Of course, this is only the idea I use, I tend to move things around bit by bit, peice by peice, but I'm sure I'll find the most effective use for this one sooner or later since the draft idea really is pretty good and wins alot. Please improve upon this design and PLEASE share pics of your formations as well!! |

Nice formation, Dragonslayer. I just started using it and only lost once. However, I noticed that one side can't defend the cleric very well. I think that is the downside of this formation. If you move the foward, knight left, the right side is vulnerable.

Who would ever put up their formation here??? I mean, anyone could look at it, and instantly figure out a way to counter it using their own set-up. Its like shooting yourself in the foot.

ok, any fool, that spends time to memorize a formation and then adapt his to beat just ONE palyer has got some serious problems. maybe if u have something to prove against maybe the best palyers in the game...maybe those people shouldnt post. but look at it this way. why are we here? to have some freakin fun. now how much fun do u have wasting noobs?(if u answered yes, then u should seriously die) i would be happy, wait i would LOVE it if someone took the time to look at my formation and beat the crap out of me. it would make my formation even better. how many here have changed their formation becuase it was unbeatable? any hands? no u change it becuase its flawed. and as such should be change. and defeat is the only way to improve.
well thats my 2 cents. bit long of a reply, i apologize. anyone know, any easier ways to post formations?
