Possible problem with the dragon

Was in a game and attacked with my dragon against a knight 3 spaces away, but the attack didn't hit, the dragon simply did the attack animation. The dragon's attack pattern showed the knight in range.

I believe my dragon was 4 spaces to the right and 3 spaces deep (looking at the board as in the setup) on the high side of the board, and attacking a knight 3 spaces to the right of him.

Happened again in a seperate game, this time against a scout 2 spaces away. Does the dragon have a chance to miss its target?
